However there seems to be some negative reaction, calling it "crass" and "a cynical attempt to cash in on the 100th anniversary of WW1".

I think the critics fail to realise that it was made in association with the RBL which will no doubt benefit from it.

Hi moonie & skylark

I too watched the ad last night and I just thought it was so moving.  I don't take any notice of critics, I think the meaning came through so clearly.  In the real incident the men on both sides sadly went back to fighting each other, but there was no argument between them, just between leaders who want power.  Sad in a way but very moving that the humanity of ordinary people reaching out to each other shone through at Christmas time, even if only for a little while.

I am glad you stiff neck and headache has eased Yogi.  Hi to moonie and Skylark

I've now found this link on the British Royal Legion website:

http://www.britishlegion.org.u...-truce-story-to-life

which says much the same but the critics wouldn't be able to say it's just a marketing ploy by Sainsburys.

Thanks El. There are other people on DS saying that they found the advert touching and that RBL will benefit from it, so hopefully the links you have posted will also find their way there.

Hope we're all okay and nice and toastie

Afternoon Velvet.

Weather has been awful here too. Keira is having a bit of a sulk because we haven't been out either - no doubt, she'll also have a maddie later on.

She needs to remember she's nearly ten (70 in human years) and behave herself.

Dolly was born with a mid-life crisis as her previous owners conservatory and some of the doors in here can testify. She's got her own couch too which she has patinated nicely

 Aww, she likes her comforts.

I hope none of you get drowned today if you have to go out. Here's something for you if you do need to:

Thanks El, I've checked out the 10 day forecast for my area and I think I might need some flippers to go with that snorkel.
