That's good.

I remember my nana's old border collie being so terrified, he used to climb up onto her knee and shake like a leaf.

I had a great day with PB, thanks.

Yogi, have a wonderful day with PB but don't let her feed the birds to many raisins or they will need weightwatchers

Sweet, I hope you get to see your goddaughter

Morning El and Squiggle

Oh dear, Moonie!

PB did feed the birds lots of raisins - and ate a fair few herself!

We have added a new male blackbird to our raisin eating crew. He isn't as tame as the others but I'm sure PB will win him round with the raisins.

Bet he is won over already and will be first in line next time Yogi

 More than likely.

Word soon gets around on who feeds the birds by word of beak

Good morning everyone

Dry at present but forecast to start raining during the afternoon.

Squiggle, that tar barrel event does seem dangerous but presumably the person carrying the barrel is wearing protective clothing and I assume there are lots of guards making sure the onlookers don't get too close. My local equivalent is the annual Coopers Hill cheese rolling event.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEMtPEisKms

A cheese is rolled down the slope with people chasing after it, It used to be a double Gloucester cheese but is now made from wood. Due to health and safety it is no longer officially held but it still goes ahead. (No, I've never gone to it).

El Loro

Good morning everyone, very windy here and heavy rain forecast for later on, it always seems to rain on housegroup day.

A bit of a surprise this morning, there was a woodpigeon delicately sipping from the pond, inside the net! Of course when he came to fly away he was in for a shock but after a few goes he quickly flew back to the other side of the pond where the wind had blown a gap between two sections that hadn't been secured properly.  I have secured it again now.

EL from what they showed on the news, there is a little bit of science involved in the way they get the fire lit inside the barrel and the villagers take great pride in their unique event and even start the children early in the tradition so they will learn the correct way to do it.

Sadly I tried a Jaffa Sphere yesterday and found it much too rich for me so I will pass my other one on to my friend whom I'm picking up later, she loves chocolate so hopefully she will like it more than me.

I am glad PB was on form Yogi and hope that all the errands go smoothly today.  Hi to velvet and Skylark, ros and moonie

Enjoy your day everyone

squiggle

We're all different EL and I'm just sorry that it didn't suit me, I am sure my friend will love it

PS I just noticed your bit about the Gloucester cheese rolling, dangerous in a different way I suppose, people falling over on steep hillsides but I love these old traditions, all part of the charm of these quirky islands.

Squiggle, the cheese rolling event attracts contestants from abroad as well as local people as it is quite famous. The health & safety factor has forced the local council to stop making it an official event as although the contestants realise that they could be injured, the risk is that they could injure someone watching.

Many many years ago we were on Painswick Beacon coming down when my brother slipped and rolled down the hill. It's a gentle slope, not like Coopers Hill, and my brother wasn't injured, just a bit shaken. We were children at the time and my mother was scared that he wouldn't stop and would roll into the road. In reality, the road in question just goes from the main road to a farm and there is little in the way of traffic on it. So my father and I were more amused rather than concerned. Oddy enough we were talking about this at the weekend as my brother is a bit unsteady in icy conditions and is more likely to fall than I am. He wears bifocals which doesn't help but we think that his unsteadiness is partially caused by what happened all those years ago at Painswick.

El Loro

It's so easy to get into difficulties on a steep hill.  I remember some years ago my hubby whilst flying a kite with our daughter running down a hill near a cliff and he couldn't stop.  He found it very frightening, as did I, but his brother who was with us with his wife and son found it hysterical.  Luckily my hubby managed to stop himself, I think he fell over if I remember right, thank goodness.  I am not surprised it left your brother with some difficulties on icy surfaces.

So sorry to hear that have you got something snuggly and warm to wrap around you? I have a heated throw which does help, I often find that warmth is so comforting when pain strikes like that. I hope the pain will ease soon, take care.

I'll be going to see a client for 6.00 this evening. I started the work on her accounts and tax return at the end of May but there was a huge delay due to her employer failing to provide a P11D (beneifts in kind form) to her or to HMRC. I knew she should have got one but it has taken a ridiculous amout of time and effort to get it. It's to do with her getting a car from the employer and being in a car sacrifice scheme. She did not think she should have to pay tax on the benefit, and trying to convince her has been a struggle. It doesn't help that she's Polish and so English is not her first language.

As a result the fee I can charge does not reflect the amount of time I have spent, and the employer, being a public service organisation, is hardly going to pay the excess.

I'm hoping that my client will just sign her tax return without challenging it again. If she does challenge it I may have to refrain from blowing up.

My initial reaction was that the cheese rolling would be more fun and less dangerous than the tar barrel challenge, but it seems there are a lot of broken bones and bruises at the cheese event too.

I hope she signs it without fuss, El.

I do too, Squiggle.

Good oring everyone.

Weather was very wet and windy overnight but seems drier and quieter now.

I conked out early last night, apologies for not saying goodnight to everyone.

Summer, I'm glad you are safely home.

I woke at 4am with severe stomach pains and I'm still having twinges. If it doesn't settle, I may need to increase my steroids again. My consultant advised me to do this, I'm not self medicating, in case you were wondering.

Have a good day everyone.
