morning all

Sorry I haven't been around much these last few days, it's a very long & complicated story but I have been contacted by a long lost sister that I didn't expect to ever hear from. Cue long emails, lots of crying and raking through my collection of old family photos, numerous phone calls to my mum and brother etc etc
It's been emotional and surreal but I am thrilled to be speaking to her

My best friend & her adorable little family have arrived so I'm spending the weekend with them, I'll try to pop in if I can, but if I can't then I'll see you tomorrow after they have gone

Hope you're all well and are having a lovely weekend
~Sparkling Summer~

Good morning everyone.

Weather is dry and bright, atm.

Summer, it's been an emotional and busy time for you. I hope your connection with your sister is a happy one for both of you. Enjoy your weekend with your best friend and her family.

Preparing for PB's arrival, catch up with everyone tonight. Have a good day everyone.

Summer, the last few days must have been very emotional and hectic for you, your family and your long lost sister I hope you have a lovely weekend with your best friend and her family

Yogi, I hope you have a nice day with PB

Two lovely posts to read when I came into this thread today.  Well said both Yogi and EL I will just add my warm wishes that you and your long lost sister will have a wonderful time ahead catching up on photos and swapping stories Summer. May God bless your relationship for many happy times ahead. I hope too that this weekend will be a time for much laughter and fun.

Have a great time with PB Yogi and I hope it's a happy and relaxing time for everyone today and all over the weekend.

I only had one bit of post this morning, from HM Revenue & Customs.  Addressed to the personal representative of me, a Form R27 to be filled in, seems they think I have died! A little bit of a shock on a Saturday morning. The thing is for a more elderly and frail person this could have been a shock too far.  They are looking into it to ensure it doesn't affect my pensions or in any other way make my life difficult.  I wait to hear.

Hi Sweet

Awww lovely to meet someone you thought you never would. I do hope you enjoy each other and make up for all the time you weren't in contact. Have a great time with you besty and family too

Yogi

I hope you have a lovely time with PB *passes bird feed* I assume she still does feed the birds

El, we have moderate weather here. The sun is trying to break through

No promise of rain for at least the next three or four days

Squiggle

What a dreadful letter to have

They really should be careful of what they send and to whom
I hope it doesn't completely ruin your weekend

Back later. Have a great day everyone

Moonie

I was driving home from Cheltenham when I noticed a van driving right up behind me, obviously in a great hurry. Even when we got on to the dual carriageway the van was far too close. Eventually the driver moved into the outer lane and sped off, must have been over the speed limit.

If the driver thinks he's got away with it, he's in for a nasty shock. Earlier on while I was still in Cheltenham, as I came to a set of traffic lights, as I drove past they changed from green to amber. The van driver had been some distance behind me at that time and sailed through those lights. Those lights are by the police station in Cheltenham and have a camera ready to snap those vehicles which go through red lights. There is no way in which those lights weren't red by the time the van went through so the driver will get penalty points and a fine.

An update on the widow of a client who had received a tax assessment in August from HMRC saying that tax was owed even though a self assessment tax return had been sent in February which showed that tax had been overpaid. I got in touch with HMRC at the end of August.

This afternoon I had a letter from HMRC saying that the August assessment was wrong, shouldn't have been sent, has been cancelled, and apologised for their error.

I rang the widow straight away to let her know and she of course was pleased.

What a horrible letter for you to receive!

I hope HMRC sort it out really quickly for you, so you don't have any hassles as a result of their error.

She must be so relieved - and grateful she had you to look into it for her.

Hi Moonie. We had a lovely time with PB. She still loves her birdies and feeds them raisins every 15 minutes or so. We've noticed she puts out a handful of raisins for her blackbirds, then chomps half a dozen herself. We have bought those little packets of raisins for her to eat but she still nicks some of the blackbird's raisins.

I hope you've had a good day?

Not only does she love her birdies, she now has a taste for raisins too

My day has been good fankoo

I think 'raisin girl' sums her up nicely.

All those raisins ensure she gets her 5 a day.

Good morning everyone. Quite a nice autumnal morning here.  Yes thank you EL, I am quite relaxed, I hope Inland Revenue manage to get it sorted without any hiccups.  It does cross my mind as to how they could have been informed about my supposed death.  It really is quite a serious thing to do and surely to send out the form without verifying the facts is a huge blunder.  I always thought they didn't act without a Death Certificate.

I am glad yesterday went well Yogi, and I hope Summer's weekend is also going well.

Enjoy your Sunday everyone

squiggle

Squiggle, that's what concerns me, why did HMRC send you that form I know that when a death was registered at the registrars office the registrar seemed to notify the social security people and I think the social security people then notified HMRC.

I think it depends on the local council but it seems that there's a service called Tell Us Once which people use to notify various departments including HMRC and Social Security. More info:

That's what I've been wondering.

Have you been watching Strictly? If you have, what are your thoughts on the celebs this year?

Yogi19

El and Moonie.

Been to Costco and stocked up the freezer again. We also went on a hunt for a cover for my Kindle. We had purchased two on the internet, but one was too small and the other too big. Took it with me today and managed to get one the right size  - and picked up another couple of books for PB.

Hope you aren't too busy, El and hope you are feeling well, Moonie.

I am struggling a little with Strictly this year.  I like Jake and the girl with short dark hair in the emerald green dress and Simon.  I can't remember Pixie Lott dancing?  But somehow for me the atmosphere has changed, I can't put my finger on it but I just don't have the same interest somehow.  I love the costumes usually but there were very few to excite me this year.  So all in all a little bleurgh for me.  Are you enjoying it? And who's your favourite?

It can be difficult to get a cover for the Kindle, you have to know exactly what your model is, they are all different sizes.  I am glad you managed to get one to fit.

squiggle

Squiggle, I am enjoying Strictly, so far. I don't particularly like Tess in the host role, as I find her very wooden and false but I don't mind Claudia, who seems ever so slightly bonkers, but in a good way.

I really like Jake and hope he does well. Frankie from The Saturdays (short dark hair, pretty face and green dress) was very elegant and did a great debut dance. I like Jennifer and the new pro Tristan but I fear Jennifer is not born to dance. lol

I really dislike Gregg and hope he is first to go.

Edit to add : Pixie danced with the new pro, Trent (blonde pretty boy). They did a jive and she wore a very, very short dress.

My new cover fits the kindle beautifully. I feel much better now, knowing it's less likely to get scratched or bumped.

Sorry I didn't make it here earlier, much happening at present.
I hope you've all had a good weekend

Good lord squiggle I hope they apologise for sending you that letter, I'm shocked! I'm glad it hasn't affected any of your finances

El, what a relief! That poor lady, she didn't need that worry. Well done for sorting it all out for her

PB makes me smile

Moonie, so very glad to see you around again. I hope you feel brighter

Velvet I hope you've had a good day

Leaving goodnight wishes and hugs for all including our absent friend x
~Sparkling Summer~

Good morinng everyone

Some hazy sunshine here at present.

Yogi, Moonie was around yesterday. I hope you have a pleasant PB day.

3 phone calls within a few minutes this morning at just after 5.30 from a withheld number, no-one spoke but I could hear background noise which makes me think it was a call centre.

El Loro

Summer, it is possible for me to block all withheld calls but that is not an option for me as some of my clients are ex-directory so they are shown as withheld.

If I started getting phone calls at that sort of time more often I can turn the ringing down on the phones (one downstairs, one upstairs) but would need to remember to turn the ringing up again when I got up.

El Loro

Good morning everyone.  Goodness what a nuisance getting calls at that time in the morning.  Withheld numbers can be a pain, sometimes they are call centres but sometimes they are from, say, the medical centre or hospital and you dare not leave them unanswered.  I have the ringer on the phone upstairs turned off permanently but can hear the ringer from the downstairs hall well.

All going well Summer thanks.  I have started planning a big Christmas surprise for my daughter and I am keeping schtum.  I always want to tell someone, because a happy surprise secret is like keeping the cork in a bottle of champagne isn't it? But I am determined that the first she will know of it is when she comes over here at Christmas time.  Your Christmas plans going well?  I saw that you have the Christmas train ready to go and are busy with your garland and the surprise one for your friend.  As Perry Como sings 'It's the most wonderful time of the year'.   Although as a Christian for me Easter is an even more significant time.

How lovely Yogi, another PB day, make sure you have plenty of little boxes of raisins

Enjoy your day everyone
