Good morning everyone, nice to see you back moonie We had a shower earlier on but the forecast is dry for the foreseeable.  I was a little mystified as to what the funny noise on the roof was as it's some while since we had rain

You know I've never seen bramble jam, only ever bramble jelly I wonder if there's a reason for that.  Down here in Exmoor country blueberries are called whortleberries and whortleberry jam is gorgeous.  You can usually buy jars of home-made whortleberry jam all over Exmoor.  Another thing to bear in mind when foraging is sloe gin, gorgeous and very moreish.

I hope all goes well with the MOT EL, I am sure all will be fine

I really like the name whortleberry - it makes me smile.

I'm back from dropping the car off and will pick it up late afternoon.

BBC recipe for hedgerow jelly which can include things like rose hips, sloes and other fruits.

http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/rec...9/hedgerow-jelly-jam

I've had hedgerow jam which is nice, it's similar in content to the jelly but is full of seeds.

Heard on the thought for the day slot on the Radio 4 news this morning.

The speaker was talking to his young son who had just learned the continents. So he decided to test his son by saying the first part of the name for his son to complete it. It went:

Eur          ope

Afr          ica

Aust         ralia

Amer       ry christmas

 Love it!

Thanks for the link to the hedgerow jelly/jam.

Back grass has been cut to billiard standards. Let's hope Dolly doesn't pot the brown.

Hope everyone's having a good afternoon and good luck with the MOT El

Afternoon Vevet.

Ouch at the cost of tyres. Better to be safe than sorry though.

Well done on getting your grass cut, and lol at Dolly potting the brown.

Maybe the cost of the work that needs done, won't be as bad as anticipated, El. *crosses fingers*

Yogi19

The cost of the MOT and ordinary annual service was OK ÂĢ220.

However the work which now needs to be done is expensive - ÂĢ755-64

There are 3 things which need to be done but the most critical and the most expensive item is that the timing belt is wearing out and needs to be replaced.

For more info:

http://www.motoringassist.com/...ng-belt-replacement/

If I don't get it replaced and it breaks then it's quite likely that the resulting cost of repairing or replacing the engine dwarfs the cost of replacing the belt. It's not the cost of the parts but the labour involved.

The link above mentions a life span of 10 years for a timing belt and my car is about 12 years old.

Obviously I'm getting the work done (in 2 weeks) as the alternatives are a lot more expensive.

El Loro

Good morning everyone, a little more cloudy and slightly gloomy here but still dry.

That is a hefty bill for the car EL but hopefully you will get many more years of motoring for it.

You must have been tired Yogi, I am glad you slept so well.

I have 2 ladies to pick up on my way to house group this afternoon so my little car will be very busy today.

Enjoy your day everyone

Afternoon all

Aw ^ yes I'm ok thank you moonie, just got some RL stuff suddenly occurring that has required quite a bit of my attention these last few days. I'm tired but I'm fine thank you and I have my best friend arriving tomorrow night for the weekend, so have been cleaning the house too...

How are you feeling moonie? It's lovely to see you reappear!

How's everyone else?

El, your car work sounds expensive and time consuming, I hope it hasn't put you out too much
~Sparkling Summer~

Afternoon all.

The rain has arrived and there is very low cloud.

I've been to Morrisons and done the weekly grocery shopping.

 <- strawberry tarts for all.

Hi Moonie, good to see you back on a more regular basis. I hope this means you are feeling a bit better?

Squiggle, enjoy house group and I'm sure your friends appreciate a lift in your little car.

Summer, don't tire yourself out with all the house cleaning.

El, it's fortunate that you have the money to pay for the car repairs but I agree with your reasoning about replacing it, if it isn't a one-off.

Sorry to read your advisories were so high El but you're spot on about the timing belt. Mine isn't handling as it used to and I'm aware I could be a wild goose chase at a garage. The back end wants to step out but I'm wondering if it was doing that before I put new rear tyres on. Modern tyres have thinner sidewalls so replacing them after what, 2000 miles max will have to be my first port of call

Anyway, hope you are having a good day everyone

Hi Velvet.

Ouch, did you not mention a cost of ÂĢ100 per tyre?

Moonie

Good morning everyone.

Apologies for not leaving goodnight hugs - I conked out while I was reading my book.

Weather is very overcast and it has rained overnight.

Summer, have a lovely time with your best friend this weekend (I hope you managed to get all the housework finished).

Off to get my hair cut this afternoon.

Have a good day everyone.
