I have never seen so many swallows, must be about 30 all flying and feeding like mad and then the penny dropped they must be fuelling up prior to flying off for the winter.
Squiggle, you are right about the starlings, 30 would be a small flock of them. Over the nexy couple of weeks they will join with other flocks to form a large flock ready to migrate to Africa,
I've mentioned before about that time at my parents' house that we witnessed a huge flock of swallows coming down to rest on the trees in the back garden and on the house before flying off again. I'm not exaggerating when I say there must have been thousands of them. An amazing experience which I will never forget.
That sounds wonderful EL, what a sight. I was very puzzled at first until I realised what was going on.

Went to visit my mum and dad, then went clothes shopping. I was at the back of the queue when they gave out the shopping gene, I absolutely loathe it. Didn't find anything I wanted.

Very true. I was in a card shop today and they had all their Christmas cards on display already.
Forgot to mention, when youngest son visited on Wednesday, he got held up in the village - as the swans from the pond had decided to take their signets for a stroll along the road. They do this most years and hold up all the traffic.
I bet it will look fab when it's done.

It is funny to see them, and none of the drivers will pass them in case they accidentally knock them down, so the swans and cygnets have a queue of traffic following them.

I was up the park one morning a few years ago when a swan followed by several cygnets and another swan walked in front of me like I wasn't there
