We saw the new inbetweeners movie, very childish but a good laugh

El, I hope the situation with the widow is soon resolved, I hope there's something you can do

Son says you text, CCUK14 ÂĢ5 to 70070, or you can go to justgiving.com/crohnsandcolitisuk to donate.

I'm glad you enjoyed the film. Laughter is good for the soul.

Yes the laughter is good, the sweets are too lol

Excellent, on behalf of all Crohnies, I thank you.

Son's was funnier because hubby poured the bucket of water over son really slowly, prolonging the agony. His GF was kinder and threw her bucket over him quickly.

I agree with you about sweets - and cakes too!

I asked son and his GF for their opinions on Albufeira, Portugal. They said it was hot and very hilly, so not somewhere to go if you weren't reasonably fit. Drinks were quite expensive and it wasn't particularly cheap to eat out, but they had some nice meals. Some nice trips and places to visit. Son said he enjoyed the holiday but wouldn't bother going back, whereas his GF said she'd like to go back.

I like hills & mountains, but would struggle hiking up them in the heat lol

They had gone half board but found the hotel food a bit samey every night, so had eaten out several times. Fortunately, they had budgeted for it, so it wasn't an issue. Both of them are quite fit but said their hotel was at the top of a big hill, and was knackering to climb it in the heat.

I tried to wear a dress today but was so cold I got changed lol I think the sunshine is definitely all abroad

What are you doing tomorrow?

I think they will enjoy the heat but both have to watch they don't burn as they are fair skinned.

I think it is time to pack away all of our summer clothes as autumn is definitely here.

I'm considering going to the big garden centre tomorrow. I feel the need to buy plants.

Good morning everyone.

Weather is chilly and dry. Forecast says it should be sunny later on.

A trip to the big garden centre is planned today. I'm looking for some bluebell bulbs for Spring, and maybe something colourful to last through the autumn months. Compost too - I forgot it last time.

Moonie, I hope you are feeling better and are back with us soon.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning everyone, plenty of quite threatening grey clouds this morning although we are promised a dry day.

Good luck with your bluebell bulbs hunt Yogi, I do have some of the English bluebells in my garden but also of course the not-so-nice Spanish ones have got in too.  I love bluebells as I do most of the Spring flowers.

Summer I do hope that you don't get too many moany mums and kids today and for the rest of the week.

Moonie I hope you are feeling a little better today.  EL I hope all goes well with that complicated tax matter, I hope you are able to put that poor lady's mind at rest, it must be such a stressful time for her.

Have a great day everyone.

Hello moonie, I hope you are feeling better now

It's been wet here this morning as well though it may have stopped now.

Summer, the little darlings may behave themselves next Monday.

I'm back from seeing the widow and I've rung the HMRC. They are going to investigate what has happened and come back to me  - timescale of 3 weeks. I've let her now and told her not to pay the tax for the time being.

Summer, maybe JD can be Edward for the little darlings and Sweeney for the impatient parents

Squiggle, at this time I think the original assessment with the refund is correct and the recent one is wrong. There was what is called a chargeable gain on the policy that matured on death. That is treated as if it had been taxed at 20%. The gain is treated as part of income. If the taxpayer's total income stays within rge standard rate, there is no further tax to pay. If the taxpayer's income withou the gain is already into the higher rate tax band, then an extra 20% tax has to be paid on the gain.

It's where the gain pushes the taxpayer's income from being in the standard rate into the higher rate band that this top slicing relief comes in.  Without going into the complicated details, this relief has not been given in the recent assessment for reasons not known at this time.

Yogi good luck bulb shopping I've just written myself a note to do that!

My trip to the garden centre was a disappointing one. The only bulbs they had were huge bags of daffodils, and I already have them. On the way home, on a whim, I did a detour to Morrisons and they had lots of bulbs for sale.

I got -

12 mixed tulip & narcissus bulbs (pink and white)

50 mixed bulb collection of narcissus, allium, crocus and tulips (all white)

10 snowdrop bulbs (white, of course)

40 snow crocus bulbs (yellow, purple and white mixed)

50 mixed bulbs, including crocus, allium, tulips and narcissus, (mixed colours)

and all for ÂĢ10!
