Good morning everyone

I hope everyone had a full night's sleep and are fully refreshed. Though with the sticky night most if not all of us had, together with thunderstorms, that's not very likely.

It's fairly cloudy here and warm. Early hours of tomorrow forecast to be when the hot weather breaks down in my region with thunderstorms and torrential rain. One to two inches of rain is likely.

I hope Yogi is getting better

El Loro

Good morning everyone, the forecast is for us to get the heavy rain which will continue most of tomorrow but a little later start than you I think EL, from about 6am onwards.  It certainly was an uncomfortable night and sleep was difficult.  It's cloudy now but at least there's a breeze, I have the patio door flung wide and it's a little cool thank goodness.

Yogi I hope you are feeling brighter today, we miss you, look forward to seeing you back soon.

Enjoy your day everyone

I've been out doing my normal weekly shopping. I normally do this on Saturday but with the bad forecast I decided to do it this morning. I went earlier than normal as I have a client coming to see me at 10 so I needed to get back before he arrived. I have an alternative route I use to avoid the worst of the traffic for people going to work etc.

I didn't buy any cakes today so you'll have to make do with this which I guarantee is not only fat free, sugar free but zero calories. Trouble is it's not very digestible

Not funny El

The sun is currently out but the weather forecast says it should have been raining for some time now

Have a great day everyone, yes even you El

At first glance it's funny EL but when you think about it a bit longer it's not is it?  Where were the police?  Both the bull and the coach driver plus any other drivers could have been badly hurt.  I watched a huge procession of police motorcyclists providing escort duty for some big wig recently on FB I think it was.  I kid you not there must have been at least 30 of them, but where are they when you need them?

El, you were wise to get the shopping done in advance

Still no yogi?
Moonie she will love your pics

How are you squiggle, I felt like I haven't caught up with you properly this week

Hi Summer I'm fine, trying to stay cool, the weather is very odd it went really cold just now but now it's started to heat up again.  Last night was so uncomfortable and I think it may be again tonight.  I hate humidity.  I hope you are well (how many sleeps is it until Christmas? - seriously when I'm too hot I start to long for cooler times).

I agree with you. I didn't find it funny, more like relief that no-one was hurt. Castlemeads Way is  part of a new bypass on the nothern side of Gloucester. It goes past the river and there is some farmland betwwen the river and the road but there must be fencing alongside the road to prevent animals from getting on to the road. It took place in the early hours and there would not have been a massive amount of traffic at that time. There was a thunderstorm around that time so the animal may have panicked as a result. But why the poilce took 30 minutes to respond is a bit of a question for them to answer. Even if no patrol cars had been in the vicinity, the time it takes to get from the police HQ in Gloucester to the scene is 8 minutes for ordinary traffic.

El(f) Loro is correct, there are 160 sleeps til christmas
This week I've watched a christmas movie.. No wait, fell asleep to a christmas movie, every night and quickly sketched a design for my cards.
The theme this year is snowflakes!

Moonie I hope your sunburn isn't too sore it must have been unbearably hot on that bus.
I may have a solution, so hold that thought...

Squiggle, it's raining heaviliy here and there's been at least an inch of rain since midnight. Your area is right on the edge of the amber warning area though has a yellow one.

Welcome back to Captain Phil and Summer

Squiggle, she was trying to post a picture of a collection of ice cream & lollies but it didn't work. I'll try posting it again though it's possible that it may be visible to me but no-one else.

Lots of pictures on the Gloucester Citizen website of the lightning strikes locazlly either this last night or the previous night,

http://www.gloucestercitizen.c...49-detail/story.html

The article's reference to flood warnings are to alerts as to possible flooding in the usual flood risk areas rather than flooding which has happened.

The rainfall has now reached 2 inches at Nailsworth. The rain is supposed to be easing for a few hours though there is forecast of more rain this afternoon.

El Loro

Moonie, it's started raining again here and I think your 3" of rain is similar to here. Not surprisingly some roads are closed now due to flooding, and one house on the other side of Gloucester has gad its roof badly damaged by lightning. Luckily the residents are away on holiday so no-one was injured.

Although this could be the wettest day for some years, I don't think it will get to the same quantity of rain as the floods of July 2007. Looking at the Nailsworth weather site it looks probable that by the end of today, the amount of rain which has fallen since the beginning of the year will reach the total for the whole of last year.

Yep, same here too El, wall to wall blue sky again

Why is one more likely to be struck than the other then?

The external BT cable is copper and is higher up than Virgin cable which is glass fibre and at ground level. Being metallic, the copper cable could be struck but glass fibre wouldn't attract an electrical lightning strike.

Of course, the electric wiring in one's house is metallic and a lightning strike can hit that so if your computer equipment/router is connected to the power socket in the wall, it would make no difference which braodband cable was used. That's why it's best to have a surge protector between the power socket in the wall and the equipment.

Belated good morning, afternoon, evening and night to you all! I hope you're all ok and not having problems after the storms.
We had rainy spells here today but no storm, it's now foggy.

Haha, thank you El for revealing my ice creams I thought they would keep you all cool!

Very interesting about the virgin/bt cables, I didn't know that

My day was hectic! I'm glad to be climbing into bed at last

Sweet dreams to you all, I'll see you tomorrow
Leaving extra hugs for absent friends
