Good morning everyone, loads of snow fell overnight here too.  The only dilemma I've got is whether the Sainsburys delivery will get through on Tuesday or whether I should start thinking about ordering a fresh turkey from a local butcher (if he has any left) because of course the turkey is due to be delivered on Tuesday.  I have all the trimmings in but of course you can't get the bird ahead of time if you are having a fresh one, which we do prefer.  I hate this weather because it makes life so difficult   Mind you it looks stunningly beautiful out of the window

Afternoon Squiggle.    Lovely picci again.  It's always a problem knowing what to do when food you've ordered may not arrive.  Perhaps if you can get a turkey from the butcher and then the other one arrives you could freeze one and keep it for Easter!!

I wonder where everyone else is today??  I've been making chocolate chip cookies with my grandaughter and the "men" are out looking at cars!!  Will catch up again when I can.

Good afternoon everyone

Although I had some snow overnight, by 9 this morning it had stopped, and there was some bkue sky. So I thought I would walk and deliver some Christmas cards to my parents' neighbours whilst the weather was passable. I did some more book checking at my parents' house, came back home and had some lunch.

Then about half and hour ago, it started snowing again. (Same time as with you Yogi) I know it will be snowing for around 4-5 hours and here, we may get anything between 1 to 8 inches depending on how close to Gloucester the centre of the snow clouds is. It is more likely that my snow will be at the lower end of the range rather than the higher end, as Gloucester is low level. People who know the area would know that you only need to go as little as 3 miles away as the Gloucester to Cirencester road goes up a very steep hill (Crickley Hill) and it's there where the major snowfalls will be. People who don't know the area tend to get caught out.

Quite a few people who live up North and drive South to Devon or Cornwall down the M6, then the M5 think that by the time they get to Gloucester, they are almost there. But the distance from Carlisle to Gloucester is almost as far as it is from Gloucester to Penzance.

One of the people who live nearby has been spending the last few hours changing his front door, so at present there is no door, and it's been snowing for the last 2 hours, and will be for some time . What a day to choose to replace a door

The youngsters next door have been building a snowman with the snow on their from garden and my forecourt - I brushed up some snow for them. But they have had to retreat indoors because of the heaviness of the snow, so they have left this great big ball of snow on my forecourt. I'm sure they'll move it onto their garden when the snow eases, but if they don't, I could always sell it on Ebay. For sale - one partially constructed snowman - purchaser will need to arrange for collection and delivery

I'm not keen on the new Andrex advert, I like real puppies
I agree, that is why I thought I would post a couple of real puppy ones.

The new one, particularly where one of the puppies' eyes bulges doesn't appeal to me. It has been posted on Youtube, and judging by some of the comments there, it's not going down very well. So hopefully, Andrex will go back to real puppies.

Good morning everyone

In Gloucester, we got about an inch of snow. The real problem isn't the snow as such, it's the ice which over the next few days are going to make pavements and untreated roads ice-rinks. Locally, it looks at present as if we get more light snow on Wednesday and Thursday, but may be light rain by Friday and Christmas Day.

Good morning everyone, hope we are all managing well with the snow, and please be careful if you go out on the roads or pavements.  Let's all try to get through to Christmas without injury Nice to see you back in the thread Han and Skylark I really hope that your daughter's blood test results will be better next time and that you and your family will have a great Christmas despite health worries.

Good afternoon everyone

I walked to church today as it was obvious that the roads are too dangerous to drive on. Currently it is -7 here, and apparently was -10 around 9am. The police have told everyone in Gloucestershire not to drive unless it is absolutely neccesary. I was wearing trainers onstead of walking shoes as they were safer. I had no slips, but althought the pavements were safe enough with care, crossing the roads I had to take extra care as I could see that they were just ice.

Our numbers were about half that of a usual Sunday, but judging from what I heard, we were one of the few churches to still be open. Our church will still be having its Christingle service for youngsters this afternoon, and our annual carol service, but obviously some people won't be able to make it. Luckily our church is an urban church, roughly in the centre of our parish with a radius of about a mile from the centre, so for those able to, it is within walking distance.

Good afternoon everyone.
It's snowing again. Youngest son is supposed to be working tonight, but he might not make it in, unless this snow stops very soon.
Justa, it was lovely to hear from you again. I have been thinking of you, and I'm sorry your test results weren't what you'd hoped for. You know I'm here, if you want to chat.
Big for Justa and for Skylark's daughter, too.

I think there are lots of places in a lot worse state weather wise than Gloucester, Skylark. It's just that we are less used to snowy weather in the south, so people are less experienced. The main problem in the long term is the poor condition of many roads in Gloucestershire. I did read some years ago that Gloucestershire and Wiltshire road budgets were set at levels below the national average. Since then we had the floods in 2007 and the bad winter last year, both of which damaged roads, so repairing the damage has taken time and money. So what with government cuts, it could a long time for damaged roads to get repaired with whatever money is left in the council roadworks budget.

Moan, moan, grumble, grumble

Afternoon everyone.  Just a quick hello and goodbye.  Having a very busy weekend but I hope to speak to you all tomorrow, when the house is quiet once more!!

Lovely to see you back Justafriend.  Don't forget (I'm sure your won't) that we are all here for you.  I will keep you, and all my lovely buddies and their families, in my prayers.

Good morning everyone

-12 outside at present, but is supposed to improve to -3 by mid afternoon. I think today is the last really cold day here in Gloucester in this cold snap.

squiggle , I hope you stay safe today, as according to the forecast, snow in your part of the country is particularly bad over the next few hours, but then it eases.

Things in the south look as if temperatures get back to -2 to +1 in the next couple of days, but only get back into relatively nornal temperatures from Boxing Day.

I'm hoping my brother will be able to get here from London on the train this Friday, but it depends on the weather as to whether it will be possible. If London gets another lot of snow as on Saturday, it would not be possible as the tube closed down.

Good morning everyone, we seem to have had quite a lot of snow overnight.  Its definitely not safe for me to venture out, even to put out the recycling, so its just a question of waiting to see what the week brings and dealing with it accordingly.  I hope everyone is OK and that all family members manage to travel safely, is this December going to set a record I wonder?

squiggle, at least it's good to know that you are not venturing out today .
At least it's not as cold where you are compared to Gloucester and north into the Midlands.

Because of the state of the roads and the general lack of gritting in Gloucester and Cheltenham, there is doubt if even the buses can get around, per local news website. The temperature is such that salt would have no effect anyway, though later this afternoon, it might start to have some effect.
