Welcome back, Moonie.

I too lead an exciting life. I have finished the ironing and now I'm off to the shops.

Catch up later.

Mere amateurs, I have been to the tip and disposed of my old boiler, so there

Welcome back moonie!

You are a busy girl, Summer. Enjoy your walk.

Interesting article in today's local newspaper:

http://www.gloucestercitizen.c...08-detail/story.html

The house which is becoming a centre for vulnerable war veterans is being run by a Christian charity called Alabare. The house is just down the road from my church so it's likely that those in the centre who wish to will come to the church. It's sad there there have been some local residents who have complained about this, not that I've heard anything at church.

I agree that it's sad that there have been some objections, and hope the war veterans get the help they need.

Thanks Moonie, I love scones.

I can't bake them though, they always turn out like biscuits.

Some of those complaining about the centre have said that it's unsuitable as a school is near by (that's in a different article to my linked one). That's true but why should war veterans be seen as a risk to children (the centre will house 8 veterans who will be selected as to suitability and is not immediatley next to or opposite the school).

There's no accounting for the way some people think, El.

If the veterans were considered a risk to anyone, they wouldn't be deemed suitable residents for the centre.

The objections smack of a "not in my back yard" attitude.

We all owe a huge debt to anyone who has fought on our behalf.  As you say it is sad that some sad people could object to this centre.

I don't watch that Penny Dreadful television series where there's a thread on this forum but I was wondering if any of you can work out the connection between that and this old television advert:

The connection is fairly obscure and may require a bit of detective work but see if you can work it out. Well done to anyone who can work it out and you would do well on Only Connect.

Evening

Ooh scones! Yummy, thanks moonie

I've just had a lovely relaxing lavender bath
We walked for 2 hours and then skyped my mum- we're very excited about our holiday. We'll be there this time next week!

I think objections to helping veterans is appalling, their presence should be a good reason to teach the local children about them if anything! I hope they will be well looked after

Squiggle I'm glad you got rid of the boiler and yogi I'm glad you're feeling better

Not long until your holiday now, I'm not surprised you are getting excited.

I've also had a relaxing lavender bath - bliss!

El, I haven't got a clue. The guy in the ad is Clement Freud and I know he was the grandson of Sigmund Freud, so is the link something to do with him?

What are you watching tonight?

 She's a tricky minx!

Keira is doing fine.

I'm watching a repeat of Lewis on ITV3. What are you watching?

And how's PB this week?

I'm watching Pocahontas! She's my favourite Disney princess. I haven't seen it for years and I recorded it the other day

So long as you didn't squash her.

PB is coming tomorrow. She is going to 'drive' the trolley in Morrisons for me.

I am looking forward to watching all the Disney films again when PB is older.

She is a very good driver, although she has quite a unique style. She likes to swing her legs about - a bit like when you are swimming and doing the breast stroke.
