The only snag being that they required the form to be faxed back to them (I don't have a fax machine as it would be rare that I would use it) or emailed back to them.

As they would require a signature on the form I decided that the only option was to go and buy a 3 in 1 printer to be able to scan the form on to my computer. So that's what I've been doing this morning. It's a HP 6520 and seems to be an OK machine if noisier than my exisitng printer which I've had for over 10 years. I've done the scanning and emailed the scan back to the letting agency.

Wow that really is going the extra mile, well done EL

I agree. Well done, El.

The printer I've been using for years is the discontinued HP Deskjet 990Cxi which was launched early 2001 and would have been around then that I bought it. Although one can still get the printer cartridges for it I wouldn't be surprised if they became harder to get. Although the printer works on Windows 7 computers, that's only on a generic set up so there are limits to its use. I had been considering getting a new printer anyway and I'll probably switch to using it as my regular printer once I've used up my exisiting supply of cartridges.

So although it might seem as if I've gone the extra mile (actually it was 7 ) it's not as if it's wasted money.

I am at that stage too. I have an even older HP Deskjet (720c) which I have had for about 20 years.  It is still a brilliant printer but I think I won't replace the ink again and will update.  I am still trying to decide which one to plump for as I would like to print photos too, and scan and of course I want to take advantage of the wireless printing too.

Thank you for the strawberry tart Yogi, delicious and just what I needed.

The electrician has gone now and I think the heating engineer is finishing off, although I can still hear him drilling.  The house is beginning to be toasty warm and the technology is amazing, I am still in shock having been marooned in the last century with the technology I had.  That was if you feel cold go and turn the boiler on.  Now I have a handy little room thermostat that is portable and shows me whether the boiler is on, what the room temperature is and I can control the heating wherever I am in the house.  Now I am sure you are all well used to this but it's a revelation to me.

The electrician was a lovely guy from Glasgow, with a beautiful accent.  We were talking about places we both knew from Perthshire.

Squiggle, I'm glad the majority if the work on the boiler is over and that you are already getting benefits from it. It's nice when the workmen are nice and you can talk with them.

The new printer I bought does print photos and has wireless printing but that's less relevant for me. It will be some time before I use it regularly but it seems sturdy enough. I haven't tried it yet but it looks as if you can set it up for 2 sided printing which is an attractive feature for me if I want to save paper when printing a document.

I'm expecting a new client to arrive in the next few minutes so won't be around for a while.

Does that mean we will have the run of the place then El?

Afternoon all

So sorry I churchilled last night, i can't even remember doing it and I had a very heavy sleep last night!
I hope you all slept well

Today has been busy, lots of children to get tidied up for going back to school next week

El, I hope your new printer is very useful for you. I have an hp 3 in 1 too and I love it, it seems to be efficient with ink too

Squiggle, how's the boiler?

Hi Summer. You must have needed a good sleep, and I hope you feel better for it.

I hope the kids were well behaved ones?

Squiggle, how's the boiler?

I'm too hot

The thermostat is set for 22.5° but it had shot up to 24°.  I'm slowly getting to grips with it, I have set it quite low and the radiators have gone off and the temperature is slowly coming down.  I had to stick my head out of the patio doors and take deep breaths.  I am sure it will be wonderful once I am used to it. I might have to re-set the automatic setting on the main controller though because the factory setting is for the heating to stay on until 10.30 at night and I never have the heating on in the evening usually.

squiggle

Squiggle, I have the thermostat control in the room where the boiler is nearby due to the difficulties I had with the signal getting through when I first had this boiler. It's the warmest room in the house as it's upstairs on the south side. I worked out that setting it to 20 results in the other rooms being about 18 which is what I prefer. I'm sure you'll get the settings sorted out. Besides the switching off setting you may need to adjust the switching on setting as well.

I'm sure you'll be able to tweak it to your preferences, Squiggle, and then you'll be toasty warm, but not boiling hot.
