Good evening Buddies

Thanks for that, I think I might need it.

Evening Moonie, have you had a good day?

I'm sure you will

Hi Yogi, yep my day has been good fankoo. Notwithstanding the cold wet weather

We had sunshine in the morning but it's pretty cold tonight.

I just had my heating on Yogi

Mine is on too. I don't like to be cold, as my brain shuts down.

Awwww
My brain don't need to be cold to shut down

Neither does mine, but it's even worse when it's cold.

I'm like that with most things Yogi. I put them away somewhere 'safely' and forget where that is

Exactly, and when I'm putting them in the safe place I always think, "I'll remember I put them here". But I never do.

The thing is Yogi, I usually 'find them' after I have replaced them

It's soooo annoying when that happens.

If I realise I don't know where something is - even if I don't need it at that particular time - I will turn the house upside down until I find it.

Maybe you'll find it sometime soon.

Good morning everyone

It's raining here and is forecast to continue.

Yogi, I hope you have another good PB day

The chocolate covered shortbread has VAT and the millionaire's shortbread doesn't. The reason is that with the millionaire's shortbread has a layer of caramel between the shortbread and the chocolate so HMRC regard it as closer to a cake rather than a biscuit.

El Loro

Good morning everyone, there's blue sky here but it's not due to last.  I am glad I was not the only chilly body that was forced to put the heating on, it was a bit parky

I'm glad you had a lovely PB day yesterday Yogi and another one today, you are being spoiled

Summer I hope you had a lovely relaxing evening, don't work too hard today.  Moonie I hope your migraine has gone now and you are able to enjoy the weekend.

EL I have to smile when I think of those serious HMRC types deliberating over choccie biscuits and deciding what is a cake and what is a biscuit

Hope it's a lovely day for everyone

squiggle

Squiggle, there were two cases which went to appeal relating to millionaire's shortbread between HMRC and the suppliers. The first involved Good Taste and they lost. The later case involved M&S and they won. As that's the last case brought (years ago) there's no VAT unless HMRC bring and win another case. There's big money involved as a company which sells things with no VAT added, if later it's found that they should have then they have to pay over VAT even though the customer wasn't charged for it. The supplier could in theory go back to the customer to ask for the VAT but a shop isn't in a position to be able to do that as they can't charge more than the price displayed.

El Loro

After a very wet morning and grey afternon here it's brightened up and it's nice and sunny.

I see that John Boorman, who's now 81, has directed another film after quite some time. It's called Queen and Country and is a follow up to a film he made in 1987 Hope and Glory. Hope and Glory was about youngsters living in the middle of the Blitz in WW2 and I felt gave a very honest look at what life for youngsters was probably like at that time. Queen and Country seems to be about the main boy in Hope and Glory, now adult, and enlsits in the Korean war. (not the same actor though and the character's name on IMDB is shown as Bill Rohan, but it was Bill Rowan in Hope and Glory.

El Loro

Good morning everyone

Did rain here overnight but dry now and forecast to be OK today.

Yogi, you were right about the Jaffa cakes which have no VAT thanks to a court rulling. Here's another VAT oddity. Potato crisps, sticks, puffs etc have VAT but where there's no potato element so tortila chips, corn chips, Twiglets etc don't have VAT.

Summer, I hope you have a good day with your friends and that the rain doesn't come back.

Squiggle, I hope you enjoy today as well.

El Loro

I'm back from church. The rain has stayed away so far today but as the clouds were looking a bit ominous I have a lift home to a couple of the churchgoers.

One of them, along with the vicar and another family from church, are off to Sweden hext weekend for a visit to a church there with which we are twinned with. The man I gave a lift to told me that the last time he went, the family where he was staying decided to make him feel at home by showing Lewis and Downton Abbey. They wanted to know all about the way tables are laid out on Downton Abbey thinking that was how we in England normally lay out our cutlery etc
