We are having another snow shower atm and it is bitterly cold. I don't think the snow will lie though.

My eldest son and Dil had been to the dentist in the village, so they popped in for a quick visit. They brought PB with them.

No flying objects but Keira was quite happy that there was some food flying around.

Interesting article in the Express today on the Turin shroud:

http://www.express.co.uk/news/...m-Italian-scientists

The Turin shroud is of far more significance to Roman Catholics than to the C of E for instance. For me, it's interesting but of less consequence. The article doesn't mention the actual date of the earthquake which is believed to be Friday, April 3 33AD. The problem with the article is that there are those who believe that the earthquake took place during the crucifixion just as Jesus died - as mentioned in Matthew, and so any shroud would have been placed on him after the earthquake.

Interesting article, El.

My local weather forecaster thinks that the River Severn from Tewkesbury through Gloucester will peak at about the 2000 levels which were about a foot less than the level they reached in July 2007. Although that's not good news for those living on the flood plains, that does indicate that we should avoid the far worse flooding which occurred in July 2007, at least for the time being.

I know that Worcester is experiencing the same levels of flooding as July 2007 but it does not mean that Tewkesbury and Gloucester will as the Severn merges with the Avon at Tewksbury so the river is a bit different compared to at Worcester.

I hope things are better than anticipated, El.

Don't worry, granny knows how to deal with "no".

No worries, I'll know what's happened if you disappear.

Good morning everyone

It's less windy here today. It is very cloudy and there are likely to be some showers which could be snow on the hills though rain here.

There has already been flooding in Gloucester and it is likely that more houses will get affected but these are houses which are built in recognised flood risk areas. The Environment Agency have said that the projected peak of the Severn even affter allowing for tomorrow's forecast storm will be 30cm to 50cm short of the peak recorded in July 2007. So they do not expect the catastrophic flooding that there was then. It's also worth remembering that the one benefit which came out of the July 2007 floods was that the flood defence systems in my area have since been considerably improved. We came so close to the biggest evacuation of people since the Blitz and the shockwaves that sent prompted the work to be done.

Good morning everyone, we have a little interlude between rain here so I have quickly put the rubbish out while I have the chance.

The worrying thing about the floods is that they are saying that because the ground is so saturated the flooding could hang around for months.  Bad enough for those of us who just have to put up with constant rain but I really feel for those flooded out of their homes.

Hope you manage to stay dry today

Good morning

Oh my goodness, what a big sleep I've had! I must have needed it

I hope you all slept well

Very cold but sunny & bright today, I believe the forecast for tomorrow is bad again

El, historical buildings such as the cathedral are difficult aren't they, but if course cannot be changed!
I worry that the waters will cause disease if they don't subside soon
~Sparkling Summer~

Summer, I agree about your concern about the disease risk, particularly at the Somerset levels. Also rats who live near rivers may be more inclined to go into populated areas.

Squiggle, I agree that parts of the country may stay flooded for quite some time. Again I think it could be the Somerset Levels worst affected as at least the flood water around the Thames and the Severn can be pumped from the flooded areas back into the river. They are likely to look at what happened in my area after the July 2007 flooding in terms of pumping the water away.

I woner if there will now be a rethink about the proposed cutting of the Environmental Agency budget as a result of all this flooding.
