Took out my car, after about half a mile, there was a sudden loud bang. Stopped the car to look. Not a burst tyre. Drove on to my car repair place which isn't that far away, driving slowly. Probably suspension issue. They'll have a look and let me know though. If it's a strut, that will be more expensive than if it's a spring.

Anything going 'Bang' on a car is not a good sign and generally entails a cost...hope it's nothing too serious El

Good morning everyone

Sunny, cold and frosty here.
Forecast to sleet or snow for a time later tomorrow but won't last as Sunday forecast to be mild with rain in my area.

I hope everyone has a good day and stays warm

It's much the same here El...quite deceptive really as to just how cold it is when looking out the window...it fair caught me out yesterday.

Stay warm folks!

Got a phone call from my car repair place at 5.19. Work's been done on car.Either come and collect it straight away as they close in 10 minutes or wait until Monday. I said I'd come over and collect it. Put shoes and coat on, got wallet and house key. Then walked the 0.7 miles as fast as I could.
Asked what time it was when I got there - 5.32. Not bad for my age,

As expected a front suspension coil spring had broken, that and a suspension top mount and bearing had to be replaced. Also the antiroll bar link at the front had bent so needed to be replaced (that connects the left and right hand suspension units). Cost just over Β£250 including labour.

Discovered today that it appears that Marks and Spencer has ceased their healthy and balanced range of ready meals for 1. They still have their high protein range which is also healthy but comes in plastic boxes which are very difficult for many people to open,. Still have their range of meals for people looking to reduce their weight, their range of cheaper ready meals which are somewhat tasteless and any sauce rather watery, and their ranges of less healthy ready meals.
I made my feelings cleat to the staff who will pass them on to the manager and to HQ,
I've already checked and that range is no longer on Ocado.

Good morning everyone

Cold, frosty and cloudy here. Wintry precipitation this evening, may be sleet here and snow on higher ground, milder tomorrow with rain so any snow will go.

I hope everyone has a good day

Well I am still under an Amber  snow warning , but looking at my local forecast I ain’t going to get much snow , just rain, rain and more rain !Luckily I’m not on a flood plain , or near a river , but I feel sorry for those poor folks that are .

Slim, little to recommend to you on the Talking Pictures tv channel during the coming week. Tomorrow morning at 6.25 is "Our Girl Friday" (1953) a minor British comedy with Joan Collins, Kenneth More, George Cole and Robertson Hare stranded on a deserted island. Not that good a film. Not to be confused with "The Admirable Crichton" (1957) with a British family stranded on an island with their butler who was played by Kenneth More. Both films have been shown before on television.

On Friday at 18.40 is "The Brave Don't Cry" (1952) which is based on a true event about a mining disaster in a Scottish mining town. Most of the cast were non-professional actors though the lead was played by John Gregson. Sombre film but good.
In the actual disaster, 135 men were in the mine, 6 of them were able to escape before the pit became sealed, 116 were trapped but were eventually rescued, but the other 13 died.

Thank you El

I've seen the first film before...it's possibly re-watchable

Don't know the second one...sounds a bit dark & depressing to me... and being based on a true story...

On a 'slightly' lighter note, I will at some point be binging 'Call the Midwife' this week

Thanks Slim

I've yet to watch the two Christmas "Call the Midwife" episodes and it's on tonight

I din't mention two films on the Talking Pictures" channel on Tuesday night, one starting before midnight made in 1951 and the other one made in 1941 follows. If you thought "The Brave Don't Cry" was a bit dark and depressing, the 1951 film sounds off the scale in being dark and depressing. The story line of the 1941 film is macabre. Both seem too much for my tastes, I won't be watching them. I think it highly unlikely that you would want to either.
