Slightly unusual in that Gloucestershire beat Herefordshire in cricket twice in one day yesterday. Both matches were T20 so short with one match played in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Not surprising results given that Herefordshire is a minor county for cricket. Herefordshire would have a smaller number of players than Gloucestershire so it was the same people in both matches whereas Gloucestershire has mostly different players for the two matches,

Not sure if that planned maintenance work by Virgin Media has been done yet as it's still showing on the service status page.
Could be that it should have read 12.00 pm to 12.30 pm rather than am so in an hours time. Could be that it will happen at midnight tonight. Or something else

Personally, I wouldn't take any notice of the times they say...I think they just throw out random times to cover their necks

I agree with you

I see on the Virgin Media forum that there are still people having the same problem that I had on Monday, though seems to be fewer numbers affected than then looking at the Down detector outage map

Paddington 3 is due to start being filmed and may get released by the end of the year. Original title was "Paddington in Peru", and film would be set there and in the UK.

We shall wait patiently for you to let us know El

Paddington 3 was one of those films which got delayed. It's now due to be released on 8 November. And yesterday a trailer was released:

By default, quoting replies will get posted to the same thread as the quoted reply. There is a way in which one can post it in a different thread,  These instructions are for someone using a computer. I don't know if it's possible with other devices.
Draft your reply including the quote as normal. But don't post it. Instead click on the source code icon at the right end of the icons in the add reply screen (the <> one). That takes you to a different box headed Source code. Highlight the contents of that box. Press Ctrl-C to copy the text. Click OK or cancel to come out of the Source code box back to the Add Reply box. You don't want to post the reply and you want to abandon it by clicking on say the Big Brother UK link at the top.
Now go to the thread that you want to post your reply in. Go to add a reply but don;t type anything there, Click on the source code icon. In the box headed Source code press Ctrl-V to paste the text that you had copied into the box. Then click OK and the reply that you had drafted should be there for you to post.

If any of you have been following the cricket T20 World Cup, although England had a very impressive win yesterday, their last group match is tomorrow. That would be played in Bermuda. The forecast is bad. If the march is called off then it will be Australia and Scotland who qualify for the later stages. The England Scotland match got wiped out by bad weather.

No I don't El, sorry

Does seem unfair though that England could lose out due to bad weather

The teams in England's group are Australia, Scotland, Namibia and Oman. Pre-tournament the expectation was that Australia and England would get through, Scotland in 3rd place with Namibia and Oman the minnows. England didn't do well against Australia. Their mach with Scotland started but rain set in half way through Scotland's innings. At that point Scotland were doing well at 90 for 0. The England match against Oman yesterday was an extremely convincing win by Oman. If their match against Namibia dies get played they would expect to win.
Scotland has had two wins against the two minnows. Australia also won against the minnows and have already got through to the knockout stages.

Yesterday England skittled out Oman for 47 runs. They got the required number of runs in 3 overs and 1 ball. Not a record but not far off.

In the cricket T20 World Cup, the match between England and Namibia was played though shortened and in tricky conditions. Apparently the cricket ground at Saint George in Bermuda drains very quickly, There must have been pressure for the match to go ahead as there was a feeling that it would have been unfair on England to be knocked out because of weather and a criticism of the rules preventing a match being moved to the following day. England dd win that match,
The Scotland Australia match was played overnight in better conditions. Extremely close match with Australia winning with 2 balls of their innings left. England and Scotland finished on the same number of points but it's England to go through due to a better run rate due to that match against Oman. It's clear than in terms of T20 cricket, Scotland are a very good side,

It's not a knock out stage next, The top two sides in the four groups go through to two groups of four. England have West Indies, South Africa and the USA in their group.

Slim, some films on the Talking Pictures tv channel during the coming week to comment on.

On Wednesday at 2.55 in the morning is "Three Came Home" (1950) which starred Claudette Colbert. A serious film adapted from the memoirs of Agnes Newton Keith. She, her husband and their young son lived in North Borneo in the 1930s. Then in 1941 the Japanese invaded and they were captured, imprisoned and were then separated with her husband taken away. Much of the film is then about her and her son. The colonel in charge of her camp was fluent in English, had read a book written be her about life in Borneo and treats her well. She does not get treated well by the guards and suffers when the colonel is away though he does return. The film ends with the Allied troops landing, finding that the Japanese have abandoned the camp, and in sue course, as the title says, three came home.
It's a very good film and worth watching.

On Thursday at 5.25 in the morning is a short film called "Murder at the Grange" (1952). It's very low budget, was originally made as an episode for a tv series that never got shown. It was a police detective series starring Patrick Barr. The reason for mentioning it is because it features Tod Slaughter. He was known for him hamming in Victorian melodramas which toured this country, some of which he filmed. This was made near the end of his career and is a chance to see what he was like in a short film rather than having to watch a whole feature film of his

Also on Thursday at 18.50 is "Small Hotel" (1957) which is a fairly short comedy with Gordon Harker  near the end of his career as a crafty waiter at the Jolly Fiddler Hotel. Reading about it I think you'll enjoy it. There are also appearances by the likes of Irene Handl, Dora Bryan, Francis Matthews (who was Paul Temple in the old tv series) and Billie Whitelaw.

Thank you El

I shall have to record the first two...they're on a little too early for me

A film poser in two parts.
Name a film with Jack Nicolson with a title which starts with "The" followed by the other word which starts with "Sh" and ends with "ing". That's quite easy.
Now name a second film with Jack Nicolson with a title which starts with "The" followed by the other word which starts with "Sh" and ends with "ing".

1) The Shining
2) The Shooting

Jack Nicholson...a great actor
'As Good As It Gets' is probably my favourite film he was in

Slim, correct with your two answers
One of the channels showed "The Shooting" yesterday. It was made in 1966, a western, a PG certificate as what violence is in it is mild. Apparently it's a very odd western. One reviewer compared it to Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot". Another though it was closer to an Alain Resnais film, not that he ever made westerns. Alain Resnais was a French film director, I think you would find his films didn't tick any of your boxes

I'll avoid those ones then El

I watched 'The Titfield Thunderbolt' on Saturday...a classic Ealing comedy
Then yesterday I watched 'Pillow Talk' & 'The Duke'

A small mercy due to the football coverage
