Although you will be aware of the various Roman numerals used, here's a couple of things which are less well known.

As they used letters, that would make it tricky to use those for fractions. So they used an S to signify 6/12ths. They used dots for the number of 1/12ths so one dot to 5 dots for 1/12th to 5/12ths, and S followed by the number of 1/12th for the higher 12ths so S..... was 11/12ths for instance,

For large numbers there were two methods used. One was the use of the Ↄ symbol. That was to multiply a letter by a factor of 10. The use of several Ↄs would be used to multiply a letter by 100, 1000 etc. A 500 was shown as IↃ (which is probably where the use of D came from) and a 1,000 was shown as CIↃ (later changed to M). CCCCIↃↃↃↃ was 100,000.
The other method was the use of a line over a letter to show that it was multiplied by 1,000,

In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance there was some use of others letters for various numbers. There's a list of them on this Wiki article:

Hi everyone

I'm fine, so no need to worry.

I've been having serious connection problems with Virgin Media today. Very strange as I could get on to some sites but not others including the forum. Got a Windows message about network connectivity being a problem. Did a Virgin Media service status. That said there was a problem at my end and to reboot the hub router. I did that and that had no effect. Tried a few times with the same result, rebooting my computer had no effect.

I did have a look on the Virgin Media forum and saw that there were others having the same problem today, Later one of the forum team did post that they were aware of the issue and were looking into it.

In the last few minutes I tried getting on here again and was able to. I don't know if the problem has been sorted out but don't worry if I seem to be missing from the forum

Although I'm still  able to get on here, the Virgin Media service status now shows that there's "Network issues might be affecting TV and broadband services at the moment." and that the estimated fix time is tomorrow at 2.06pm. Looking at the Virgin Media forum there are some people who are still having problems at present.

So if I'm missing from here tomorrow, you'll know why,

I have also seen that Virgin Media have planned work on Thursday in my area from 12.00 am to 12.30 am which may there's no internet or landline. Although that's in the middle of the night, it might be that there's still problems in the morning.

Morning Slim and thanks

Virgin are a pain in the rear at times...
Whenever ours goes down here, they always state some random hour by which time it'll be fixed but it's never what they say
We recently had a new router, replacing the one Dad had had since he first became a customer of theirs...they only wanted him to pay for it I told them catergorically that that wasn't going to happen, made a few noises and they came and installed the new one for free.
Maybe you need a new one El?

I'm aware that my neighbours have been having connectivity problems over the last week or so and have been waiting for that to be sorted out. There's this work which Virgin Media said they were doing. So I would wait until that's done. I'm aware that their policy is to offer a free replacement router for customers who agree to upgrade to one of their gigabyte packages,

The engineer remarked that the router we had here had been obselete for a few years...so, it was definitely time for an update

I've realised that if I were to contact Virgin Media for a new hub, the chances are that they would make my landline phone connection digital. Although that will probably be done at some point in time, that's not something I want until it's forced on me
