Official trailer for the live action "Snow White" film:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iV46TJKL8cU
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Rachel Zegler (Snow White) was Maria in the remake of "West Side Story. Gal Gadot (The Evil Queen) was Wonder Woman/Diana Prince in "Wonder Woman" & others.
Apparently "Heigh-Ho" and "Whistle While You Work" have been kept in this film though there are new songs as the one in the trailer.

I'm sure it's a lovely film but I do wish they'd leave the classics alone... nothing will ever top the original animation

I agree with you, Slim
The original has been a U certificate for many years. When it was first released it had an A certificate. Apparently that meant under 16s had to be accompanied by an adult. In the 1950s a U certificate was given but with some scenes being cut as being thought too scary. It wasn't until 1987 that those cuts were removed and the complete film given a U certificate.
I remember reading something a very long time ago, My memory is that when the film was made, there were rumours that in this country the BBFC were considering giving an H certificate to the film. H certificates were for horror films. A certain writer was a film critic for the Spectator at the time. He started a campaign to stop the BBFC giving the film such an H certificate and was successful.
That writer was Graham Greene.

As you say, a nondescript day, Slim.
Nondescript is a word which seems to be used more than descript

Jenny Agutter and "The Railway Children". Best known as Bobbie in the 1970 classic film. She also returned as Bobbie as an adult in "The Railway Children Return" (2022) (Channel 5 Christmas Day afternoon).
She first played Bobbie in the 1968 BBC serialisation.
And in 2000 she played the part of Bobbie's mother in an ITV movie adaptation, That is also being shown on Christmas Day on the Talking Pictures tv channel in the morning. Some of the cast are:
Jemima Rooper as Bobbie
Michael Kitchen as Father
Richard Attenborough as the old gentleman on the train (his final role)
And Georgie Glen as Aunt Emma (Miss Millicent Higgins from "Call the Midwife") which of course means that CTM wasn't the first time that she and Jenny Agutter were acting together.
I watched "Brandy for the Parson" (1952) yesterday evening (the British comedy where a couple on holiday get mixed up a man (Kenneth More) who turns out to be a smuggler.
Watchable, OK cast though Charles Hawtrey's character was a touch irritating, very attractive scenery, quite a good storyline. Not the best directed film though.
The film was made as a comedy though was adapted from a short story by Geoffrey Household. I doubt if that story was written as a comedy. Household's best known novel was "Rogue Male" That was made into a TV movie in 1976 for the BBC with Peter O'Toole. That adaptation was not as good as the 1941 film adaptation called "Man Hunt! starring Walter Pidgeon, Joan Bennett and George Sanders, and was directed by Fritz Lang, Lang was one of the top directors but if I were to say which was the most enjoyable it would be "Man Hunt".

'The Railway Children' is one of my all time favorite films ...love it, even though it makes me cry at the end every time
I haven't seen the 2000 version and have no intentions of doing so...the original cannot be bettered

I did watch the 2000 tv version when ITV showed in back in 2000. Good but cannot compare to the classic 1970 film,
I'd forgotten about the 2000 version until I spotted it on a trailer.
I would hardly forget the 1970 film

The theme music used by the BBC in their adaptations of "The Railway Children" made before the 1970 film came from Greig's Symphonic Dance number 2:

Slim, two films to mention on the Talking Pictures tv channel during the coming week.
Thursday evening is "Across the Bridge" (1957). Man flees from the States to Mexico after being charged with embezzlement. A British film though the lead is played by Rod Steiger. Based on a short story by Graham Greene. I haven't seen the film but would expect Rod Steiger to be typically intense, and the film to be good but hardly entertaining.
Friday morning at 10.10 is "Beyond Christmas"/AKA "Beyond Tomorrow" (1940). Drama fantasy. The ghosts of three elderly men killed in a plane crash return to earth to help reunite a couple they initially brought together.
The three elderly men played by Harry Carey, C Aubrey Smith and Charles Winniger, the couple by Richard Carlson and Jean Parker.
I think the film is likely to be sweet and sentimental but a lot more enjoyable then "Across the Bridge".

Thank you El
Not sure I like the sound of the first film...might be a little too intense for me.
And I'm thinking that I may have seen the second one, but will record it anyways just incase I haven't

Express news heading today "HMRC to issue ÂĢ100 fines to UK households from January" is incorrect.
https://www.express.co.uk/fina...100-fines-uk-January
Those with self assessment tax returns have to have filed them by 31 January otherwise they'll be fined ÂĢ100 but those don't get issued until after that date.
Tax needs to have been paid by 31 January otherwise interest rather than a fine, will be charged though there's a surcharge if still not paid by 28 February.

Environment Agency estimate that 1 in 4 properties in England will be at flood risk by 2050:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c99x4599gr7o
The report is by region. In the early part of next year it will be possible to check the risk by property vis their check long term flood risk page but that's showing the old risk level at present.

Given the recent weather, it would be foolish for anyone that is in a risky area to not start protecting their homes... I certainly wouldn't be relying on the local councils or others to do it.

The risk of flooding for my house is considered to be low (under 1% in any one year) and looking at the maps the main risk would be the back garden rather than the house. There's a brook which goes past the houses on a nearby road. Those houses would be at greater risk especially for those on the side further away from me.
The council does go round clearing road gutters and gullies. Recently I spotted some workmen going down the road in a vehicle, stopping by each gully and using a hose down the gully to suction it out. Clearly being done to reduce the risk of gullies getting clogged up.
