BBC Four to start a season of Michael Powell/ Emeric Pressburger films on Thursday evenings from the 21st. They have been shown before many times but it's possible that some of them may be the restored versions the BFI arranged a couple of years ago. BBC Four also including some documentaries.
21st A new documentary with Martin Scorsese introducing the season follows by "I Know Where I'm Going" followed by a repeat of a documentary on that film followed by "The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp".
28th A new documentary with Thelma Schoonmaker talking about her career, followed by "A Matter of Life and Death" followed by "The Red Shoes".
BBC schedules don't go any further than that at present,

Michael Powell's career was wrecked by the outcries which followed his "Peeping Tom" film which resulted in only making a handful of later feature films, the only one of any note being "Age of Consent". Scorsese had been an admirer of "The Red Shoes" and was shocked when he discovered that Powell was living in near obscurity. He decided to help Powell and to restore his reputation. Thelma Schoonmaker is Scorsese's long term film editor. In 1984 she and Michael Powell married. After he died in 1990 she has dedicated herself to preserving Powell's films and honouring his legacy.
So that's why the two new documentaries involve Scorsese and Schoonmaker.

Timothy West's last television or film role was in an episode of the BBC series "Doctors". That episode happens to be the one shown today.
That was the last but one episode of "Doctors", the very last one being shown tomorrow. The axing of the series was due to the BBC having to cut budgets. Dramas are more expensive to make than other types of programmes. A series of Scam Interceptors gets shown in the place of "Doctors" next week. There are serious long term repercussions arising from the axing of "Doctors" as it had been one of the areas where new scriptwriters had worked as had actors such as Eddie Redmayne and Sheridan Smith at the start of their careers.

So, what exactly are they going to be spending our tv licence fee on?
