So basically - for no truthful reason - Bea has informed Noirin that Sophie is unpopular with the public.

Was this a sly tip-off to put doubts into Noirin's head about forming a friendship with Sophie? Will the individuals now target Sophie based on this information that suggests she is unpopular on the outside?

I suppose it is possible that Bea could have been offering a "default" choice - as in suggesting the least likely to go? The problem with that theory is the add on - of being unable to say more doesn't really make sense.
