Day 8: The housemates' guide to beating the heat

Bikinis at the ready and tanning oil in hand, what exactly can our sun-worshipping residents teach us about sun safety this summer?

1. The British Summer can be a cruel, cruel mistress. Ensure you’re prepared for any occasion by considering every outfit combination in your wardrobe...

2. Protecting one’s face from the harmful effects of the sun is imperative. So long as you have applied your toner, primer, foundation and concealer first, of course.

3. Don’t let the sun go to your head. Protect delicate scalps from the sun’s rays with a range of suitable headwear.

4. A daily dip in the pool works wonders for the skin...and the cameras.

5. Avoid any strenuous activity in the soaring temperatures. Try to remain as worryingly still as possible.

6. And finally, keep your peepers out of direct sunlight by donning your best pair of sunglasses. In fact, just wear sunglasses at all times. Better to be safe than sorry.

Tonight on Bit on the Side - 12th June

If a day can make a difference, then just imagine what seven whole days can do - especially in Big Brother's humble abode.

As the first week draws to a close, main gal Emma Willis is on hand to keep you up to speed with the latest goings on in the House, with a few bits of tomfoolery thrown in for good measure.

She's joined by former champ Luke A, last year's double-trouble Jack and Joe and our old friends Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace, Nicola McLean and Josie Gibson. You'd be a fool to miss it.

Tune into the show on Channel 5 from 11pm.

MrsH

12.36pm: Tamara and Winston are trying to speak French as they soak up some rays. As you do.

12.48pm: "Who's for smoked salmon?" Calm down Pauline, you have a lot of mouths to feed

1.07pm: Judging by Mark's reaction, he really likes asparagus, aubergine and cucumber. No time for green beans.

1.24pm: Christopher is hoovering the garden. We're a bit confused too.

2:00pm Mark is having a dip in the pool but, naturally, he's keeping his head above water so that he doesn't mess up his eyebrows.

2:09pm Steven, Toya and Pauline are gossiping like a bunch of old fishwives. Where's the positivity from yesterday's task gone?!

2:20pm Ash and Winston have morphed into one muscly housemate. Shall we call them or ?

View image on Twitter

2:45pm Topics of conversation in the BB garden right now include, arranged marriages, blonde moments and long lost family members

2:59pm Tamara merrily skips to the Diary Room to talk to Big Brother. Her body language suggests that this will be a happy chat

3:32pm Matthew and Winston are bonding in the garden. They're discussing travelling experiences and relationships. Deep stuff

3.42pm: HMs have started to panic about necessities they missed off the shopping list. Necessities like olives

4.08pm: Mark and Helen have moved to the pool. No sign of swimming just yet. Lots of lingering

4.23pm: HMs are still obsessing over when their food will arrive.Maybe if they say 'food' three times it will appear...and don't forget to click your heels.

Here’s your daily dose of Big Brother catch up as housemates complete their first shopping task.

The Housemates are awoken by the shopping task, The Power of Positivity, where they have to remain positive or risk living on basic rations.
Toya and Steven are the Power Police and must ensure that the housemates are happy at all times.
Big Brother invites Toya and Steven to the Diary Room to explain the next shopping task, which is for the HM’s to β€˜ROFL’ (Roll On The Floor Laughing) until told to stop by Big brother. Toya and Steven must shout encouraging messages to the HM’s through loudspeakers.
Jales leads a positivity meditation with Ash, Mark and Chris which they all enjoy.
Pauline and Tamara have a conversation about Christopher and his intrusiveness.
Christopher feels if he talks to Helen about their relationship he might be β€˜ostracised’.
Some of the housemates speculate about Matthew’s girlfriend and what he’s like in the outside world. Helen thinks that Matthew is smitten with his girlfriend and she is probably a β€˜proper fitty’.

Christopher tells Matthew and Mark that he finds some of the comments that Helen has made towards Danielle upsetting.
The next part of this week’s shopping task is β€˜Happy Go Lucky’, a game-show where Ashleigh, Ash, Kimberly and Marlon play to reclaim each other’s suitcases. Marlon had to publicly rate which HM’s he would least like to see evicted on Friday. His answers were Jale, Tamara and Danielle. Ashleigh had to give herself a Durian fruit facial, which is the foulest smelling fruit on earth. Kimberly then had to read her out her recent nominations word for word to the HM’s. Ash was then asked to rank the female housemates on their sex appeal starting from the least attractive. He ranked them Jale, Pauline, Danielle, Ashleigh, Toya, Tamara and finally Helen! Marlon had to pass the β€˜Deep Cleanse’ category by pouring fish juice over his head whilst wearing only swimming trunks. Mark was nearly sick from the smell. By remaining positive they have passed this part of the shopping task.
Marlon has a conversation with Danielle, clearing up any bad feeling about his nominating her. He says that he would rather she left the house instead of being singled out and picked on.
Kimberly, Jale and Chris have a conversation about Danielle and how she has given up.
The final part of the Power of Positivity shopping challenge is the β€˜Un-fun Fair’. The teams are Mark and Tamara, Winston and Danielle and Matthew and Pauline. They will be taking part in the gungy course, all they have to do is remain positive and collect smiley tokens along the way. After a few eye-watering moments, the teams succeed in collecting all 18 tokens.
Big Brother told the HM’s that they had 5 fails over the last 48 hours, including Mark crying when make-up was removed from the house and Ashleigh not drinking her cocktail during happy hour. Big Brother revealed that they had an allowance of 10 fails ensuring their victory and winning a luxury shopping budget and a take-away.
Big Brother airs tonight at 10PM.

The Big Brother housemates are seen ganging up on Christopher Hall in tonight’s show.

Despite the Positivity shopping task, the remaining contestants are anything but positive about poor Chris.

In the morning, Steven Goode and Pauline Bennett chat and Pauline says that she thinks β€œthe two most selfish people in the house are Chris and Jale”.

Steven predicts: β€œIn the next 48 to 72 hours, it is going to kick off in this house.”

Later, Helen says that Christopher’s face(!) has started to annoy her and that it was β€œsmug”

But Toya A Washington joins the conversation and tells Helen and Pauline that if they have a problem with Christopher they should say it to his face or β€œshut the f**k up.”

GO TOYA!

Despite Toya’s words, the bitching behind Christopher’s back continues as Pauline has a conversation with Helen where Helen calls Christopher, β€œan annoying f**king wasp”, and complains that he never washes up. She later calls him a β€œtwo-faced f**k.”

In the Diary Room, Christopher tells Big Brother he is still upset about how Pauline spoke to Jale but didn’t want to bring it up as he didn’t want to start a war.

In the evening, during the take-away Pauline says to Winston that, β€œChristopher is a f**king t**t.”

Media regulator Ofcom has received over 200 complaints about Big Brother 2014: Power Trip in its first week on air, it is reported.

According to The Daily Mail, a total of 209 complaints have been logged in less than seven days – with the majority, 166, concerning Danielle McMahon and Helen Woodβ€˜s explosive post-nominations argument.

The bust-up – which aired during Monday’s β€˜Live Surprise’ special and Tuesday’s highlights show – was sparked after Danielle implied that the other female housemates were β€˜slags’.

Viewers were offended when Helen – who received a free pass to the series final on Day 2 – mocked the model’s Catholic faith, remarking that she should β€œstop s****ing Jesus”.

The row was so heated that, for the first time ever, Channel 5 pulled daytime repeats of the highlights episode, believing it was inappropriate for pre-watershed viewers.

Ofcom will assess the complaints before deciding whether to launch an investigation.

Yesterday, Danielle became embroiled in futher controversy after it was discovered that she’d posted homophobic messages on her Twitter page, including one calling for a β€œpoof” to be shot for using the word β€˜lush’.

The 25-year-old’s has divided the group with her strict opinions, complaining about their sex-related conversations despite her career in lingerie and topless modelling.

Danielle is currently facing eviction alongside Jale and Tamara, with the first boot-out taking place tomorrow night at 9.00pm and 10.40pm on Channel 5.

Kimberly and Chris eating

Day 8: What did the housemates buy with their shopping budget?

After passing the Power of Positivity task, housemates earned themselves a luxury shopping budget. That means they finally get to eat something other than chickpeas - hurrah!

So what did they put on their shopping list this week? Well, among other things, this little lot...

Top of the housemates' list: fresh fruit and veggies. Among their haul: two pineapples, four boxes of strawberries, eight avocados, four lettuces, and 20 bananas.

They also bought stacks of fresh meat, including 16 packs of chicken fillets, 48 sausages, and eight packets of smoked mackerel.Plus some veggie mince and sausages for Pauline and Ashleigh.

Christopher with baked beans

Sensibly, housemates also bought plenty of tinned goods, like tinned tomatoes, tinned spaghetti, and tinned sweetcorn.

And baked beans, obviously. Everyone loves baked beans.

To turn all those ingredients into proper meals, housemates invested in plenty of fresh and dried herbs. No more bland dinners, then!

Other things the housemates will be tucking into now their shopping has arrived: tea (normal, peppermint, and green); eggs (they bought 96 eggs, or 16 boxes of six); and cheese (feta, mozzarella, and cheddar).

Oh, and a jar of chocolate spread. Because you've got to put something on your toast.

The Big Brother 2014 results are in and a new power housemate has been chosen by us viewers, but who is it?

Over night, a poll took place using the Official Big Brother app and fans (or at least those with an iPhone) were able to vote for which housemate they wanted to send on a power trip.
The poll closed at 9AM this morning (Thursday) and this afternoon the results were revealed to the chosen housemate.
And – perhaps surprisingly – it’s Chris R Wright who has been picked by the public iOS users.
He reacted to the news after being called to the Diary Room earlier this evening: β€œThat’s a hell of a kindness.”

But when asked how he felt about becoming the new Power housemate, Chris replied: β€œDeeply uncomfortable… I don’t know what you’re going to ask of me.”
Chris will wield his power for the first time in tonight’s (Friday) live show, which will also see the first eviction.
Previous power housemate Pauline was given the opportunity to grant one housemate Β£5,000, punish another, send a third through to the final and lastly, had a killer nomination, which saw resulted in Jale Karaturp being put up for eviction this and every week that she remains in the house.
The three nominated housemates – Jale, Danielle and Tamara – were not eligible to be voted as the new Power housemate.

Everything you need to know about Day 8

Today was a big day in the Big Brother House because, after passing the shopping task yesterday, the housemates got to enjoy the spoils. We also got the first snog of the series when Tamara and Winston stepped their flirting up a notch. But let's start at the beginning...

Despite Big Brother's two-day positivity onslaught, the housemates were still feeling argumentative. Jale and Pauline kicked things off with an early morning row, but that particular rift is starting to seem like old news now that Christopher is warring with Pauline. Oh dear, oh dear.

The housemates took advantage of the June sunshine to top up their tans, but somehow, they couldn't quite relax. Steven thought he might be in Christopher's bad books, and the looming evictions kept everyone on edge.

Date night in the pod

The arrival of the shopping lifted everyone's spirits, though. To celebrate the House's newly restocked shelves, the housemates decided to dress for dinner, but Winston took things one step further: he arranged a secret date for Tamara in the pod, and the two of them even had a sneaky snog. (Big Brother is, of course, always watching.)

Finally, the identity of the Secret Power Housemate was revealed! What will Chris do with his newfound power? You'll have to tune in to the live show tomorrow night to find out...

Day 8: Tamara and Winston's photo love story

It started with a bath and tonight Tamara and Winston gave us the first snog of the series.

Let's take a look at the path of true love.

Winston pulled out the big guns. Tamara was impressed.

But what's this? Why does Winston have Kimberly's legs around his neck?

Tamara experimented with a new look. Reem.

Something about Winston's spag bol got Tamara in a lovin' mood and they were soon cosying up in The Pod.

The ganging up on Christopher Hall in the Big Brother 2014 house has continued today.

Yesterday and in last night’s highlights show, we saw Helen Wood and Pauline Bennett spreading around the house to turn the group against both Christopher and Jale Karaturp.
Helen and Pauline poisoned Winston Showman, Mark Byron and Matthew Davies with tales, insults and bitching about Christopher’s apparently evil ways.
Helen ranted: β€œHe’s ******ing boring, I can’t stand the little ****, his ******ing stupid ******ing ferret face.”
In the early hours of this morning, Helen continued as she tried to get Ash Harrison and Toya A Washington on board to her way of thinking and it seemed to work.
Big Brother Summer 2014
She told the pair about one of Christopher’s heinous crimes.
β€œHe left a tray of yoghurt out, Pauline told him to put it back in the fridge and he said β€˜I’ll do it in a minute’,” she said.
What a ****.
Helen went on: β€œHe’s trying to annoy everyone.”
Ash suggested: β€œHe’s got the power, I reckon he’s got the secret power and he’s trying to annoy everyone”.

Toya said: β€œI don’t think he’s got the power.”
Helen added: β€œHe’s just an absolute ****.”
Toya agreed: β€œSometimes I just sit in there and watch him and I just feel sick because of the way he is.”
Helen then mocked Chris’ mannerisms, saying: β€œHave you seen the way he does this with his face? I don’t even like the way he looks.”
Meanwhile, Chris’ only friend in the house Jale was giving him a pep talk on how to deal with Pauline.
β€œDo not get sucked into it,” she told him. β€œShe doesn’t listen to anyone, she can’t take criticism, she’s not used to people who stand up for themselves.
Big Brother Summer 2014
β€œShe’s been systematically going around this house s**t stirring.”
Jale added: β€œShe’s so insecure about this she’s had to go around to everyone and pull them into their point of view. Don’t get caught in.
β€œShe make a point of being direct and honest but she can’t handle it. She doesn’t know what she’s doing.”

Day 9 Task: Can Mystic Mark really read minds?

After regularly informing the housemates of his psychic abilities (particularly when it comes to predicting if a storm is coming), Big Brother thought it was time to test out Mark’s predicting prowess once and for all. In today’s task, Mystic Mark and his tarot cards will attempt to answer questions on the inner thoughts of Helen, Winston and Danielle when they visit Mystic Mark’s boutique. If he manages to answer the questions correctly, the House will receive a box full of pampering treats and this week’s long unanswered question on Mark’s physic ability will finally be put to bed.

How will he get on? Come back soon for video highlights...
