With all due respect, I think I might hate you a little bit... Valentine

mind you I didn't start moisturising til I was mid twenties... and not daily til I hit 30!

Keep your daughter on the Bio Oil, It's a miracle in a bottle, works on older scars too. You have to go back to Costco Ditty, Bio oil there is ÂĢ10.00 for a huge bottle. Hug

Laugh at Costco... if I go down there... I am gonna be looking for you!

her scar is old.... is ermm.. 8 years old.

(she got pushed onto a rusty pipe when she was 8... had to have twenty odd stiches on the front of her shin)

I will talk to her about using the oil, cos its not so much that she's embarrassed about how the scar looks... its that its inconvenient.

She can't shave her legs... she uses veet... and not on the scar area.... is very ragged and raised.

I'm having that tomorrow!

if you use it with a moisturiser.. then I think you have to use the bio-oil first.. but what I do is slick a bit on at night after I've cleansed before I go to bed..

yeah bio-oil is brilliant.. and I've also discovered that cocoa butter + vitamin e (the Palmers stuff) is amazing too.. my scar is only 8 weeks old and I swear if you saw it you would be amazed..

I got given a strip of silicon for that.. to prevent the scar raising.. it's like a sticky clear gelatinous thing... you put it over the scar at night and secure it.. my scar is as flat as a pancake.

She got butchered in A&E... was before I worked for NHS, or I would have known they were not treating her right.

They wound scrubbed her on a local anaesthetic... then held her down as they did layered stitching. I now know she should have been treated by specialist paediatric team... and under a general.

I am grateful she never needed a graft, and that it coped with her growing.

I'm going mad trying to think of the name of a fm who would like it on this thread- she changed her name when we moved and now I can't remember the old or new name! Remember she did a really funny thread re pretend shopping in Harrods, Vivienne Westwood etc. on line and putting loads of expensive stuff in her basket. Anyone know who I mean?

Honestly Ditty, Bio oil works on old scars, I have a 40 year burn, 200ml bio oil in Costco ÂĢ10.00, you will easily recognize me there, they love me, Long Ruby red hair, trolley full of crap, usually with an electric plug attached. Nod

poor thing.. Frowner

Have to say when I was taken in the first doctor in A&E was just having me sit and wait for triage.. when he came back after I had the xray I said to him errr you do know you can see right to the bone don't you.. so he finally had a bliddy proper look, got the Registrar or whatever and he said oh no this has to be referred to Plastics & Reconstructive.. I'm like 'no sheeeit sherlock'. So I'm not surprised. Shake Head

Is there any point maybe in getting her referred for a consultation to see if Plastics can do anything? What is it they call it, scar re-something or other..

Not for the freebies etc. but always try and buy when they've got freebies on offer- I've got more clarins, lancome, estee lauder etc.make-up bags and toilet bags than you can shake a stick at! All those minatures are great for sleepovers, w/es away etc. and are dead handy to take on the plane now that you have to have all your liquids in those tiny see-through bags

Probably could. There is an excellent burns unit/plastics dept at Chelmsford.

Thing is... I doubt she would agree to it. The whole experience left her terrified of hospitals. If the scar bothered her on a day to day basis... I would look into it. But it doesn't seem to anymore... and it justifies her getting veet for her legs! Roll Eyes

She's way more concerned about the size of her bum, than her leg.

I may talk to her about using the bio oil properly and see what happens, and how she feels about it.

bless her.. if it isn't bothering her then all good..

this is my one and only scar, so I don't know how it'd be with older ones.. but I've been using that and the cocoa butter with vitamin E and (although I'm a good healer anyway) I'm pretty sure thats a good part of the reason why it is healing really well..

I have a 15cm scar down my left forearm (but I have to twist it to see it myself)

It was horrid at first... very angry and red and raised... but its def faded over time.

I can't say it bothers me... but then nobody has ever said anything. I think if someone pointed and went "errr" or something then it would bother me.

Its always good to have a scar at dinner parties... especially if its one you don't have to pull any clothing up or down to show it off!

My sister had a hideous one when she smashed her elbow to smithereens- was really self conscious about it and didn't want to wear sleeveless tops..We convinced her, on hol in Cornwall, that no-one would notice, so she went out with a strappy top- cue 5 mins later a drunk shouted "Oi you with the f'kin great scar on your arm" !!!
FM
Bloody hell Soops!!

See I don't feel that it makes me look any less attractive... its just a line down my arm.

It was a bit gory to begin with red... with the staple marks an all... but... its not like its on my face... or it changed the shape of my arm or anything.

My mum is the same.. she had a plate put in her collar bone and has a small scar on her shoulder... so won't wear strappy tops... I don't really understand why.

If anything I kinda think they are to be worn with a bit of pride.

But for that bloke to shout that at your sister... when she was feeling vunerable about it... a) what an arse!, b) sods law!

How is the scar now then... is she still hiding it?

No she doesn't give a toffee -she lives out in Turkey and usually has next to nothing on 'cos of the heat. She still can't straughten her arm completely though- never will be able to. It was 10 yrs ago, my mum was dying and we were having a big, family last hol' together and couldn't go abroad 'cos she had only been given a few weeks to live, ..so I guess we were all a bit 'fragile' at the time Crying

Aw... but you sound such a babe though! So, has the bio oil reduced the scar on your back?

I think it has, I fell into an open fire wearing a nylon bridesmaid dress ( I didn't fall I was pushed by my younger brother) I spent 9 month's in Great Ormond Street Hospital, had 40% burns and extensive skin grafts, would I change anything, capital 'No' my brother was ill and still is, I love him to bits & he loves me, the only thing I would have prevented is how he suffers now through guilt.

Wow! But I respect your outlook on it. and I can understand how you wish your brother wouldn't feel any guilt about it.

As I've said.... the majority of scars I don't see as ugly. But 40% burns is nasty! Thank god you didn't go in facing the other way Angel... thank god it was your back... oooh... have a hug.. Hug
