Will it be the same again?
And it's really making me wonder just what the licence is going towards these days
I thought they had said, only recently, that they wouldn't be moving .....bye bye Bake Off as we know it
if the keep the same format I won't mind so much...it's a big if
Nothing new - look at Morecombe & Wise
Really loving Bake Off
See, you can get over your dislike of Hollywood

That was my first thought too
There's a clause in the contract for Bake Off between the BBC and the producers Love Productions which means that there has to be a year's break between Bake Off ceasing on the BBC and it being shown on another channel.
There will be two Christmas specials where four bakers from past series do three seasonal challenges, Judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry will continue to preside over the competition, once again presented by Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc. That replaces the Christmas Masterclass ones done by Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry in recent years. That will be the last on the BBC.
So it may be that the Celebrity Bake Off series mentioned on Moonie's link won't be until Christmas 2017 and no normal Bake Off until 2018.
There was an article recently where Paul Hollywood said that he and the others had no involvement with negotiations on possible moves to another channel and he was not convinced that he or the others would want to continue. It might be why he has seemed grumpier than usual during this series.
I have read and heard that Love Productions, who produce Bake Off say their reason for leaving the BBC was "not about money."
Well, they are reported to be getting 25 million pounds from Ch4 whereas the BBC had only offered 15 million...
If that's "not about money" I don't know what is...
I really don't get all the kerfuffle - the radio's been full of 'but..but..but.. Bake Off is BBC show' It's not. It's a show made by Love Productions that the BBC bought. Now they won't pay the asking price (rights and wrongs to be discussed - if they had, the same people who are shocked would probably be annoyed that they squandered licence fees) .. so the supplier is going somewhere else. It's like a farmer saying he won't grow strawberries any more if the the jam maker starts selling to Waitrose instead of the Co-op.
Seriously - if you were selling something and somebody offered you one and a half times what someone else offered - who would you sell to?

What's a wee bit concerning is how loose the Beeb left the rolling contract with no tie downs.
Maybe right there... I've just read that Love Productions is 70% owned by Murdoch. Now THAT'S a much bigger reason to jump ship in my book. (Masterchef is 50% owned by him too)
no surprise there,it's well known Murdoch and his press attack the bbc with a vengeance.

Thanks, Donks - he's back home now... turns out it was pneumonia, but it's amazing what a couple of days of intravenous antibiotics will do

that's good news Kaffs
I doubt I'll watch it to be honest, the adverts were a bit of a bummer, but now Mel and Sue going

Speculation as to who might be the replacement(s) for Mel and Sue:
Announced in the last few minutes:
Paul Hollywood is to continue as a judge on The Great British Bake Off when the show moves to Channel 4 but Mary Berry is to leave the series.
In a statement, Hollywood said he was "delighted" to be staying on the show.
"It's been a huge part of my life in the past few years and I just couldn't turn my back on all that," he said.
Berry said she is staying with the BBC out of "loyalty", adding that the corporation had nurtured her and the show.
She said Bake Off was "a unique and brilliant format from day one" and that she was "just sad for the audience who may not be ready for change"
The BBC article with Paul's and Mary's statements:

Paul Hollywood is not a big enough draw for me. Losing Mel & Sue was a good move, but like most shows of this type, you need light and dark. Mary was the Jedi light to Paul's Sith Lord.

Despite what anyone says, ever, it is ALWAYS about money. Money is what drives our society.
Hold the front page... Mary's not going.
Jeezo... I really don't get the hysteria. Don't they know Brangelina have split up? Where ARE their priorities?
Nice to know that important items are getting top billing in the news....

Thanks for that info @Kaffs.
I do my best to avoid Murdoch associated products. This will be my last GBBO and more than likely Masterchef too.
It doesn't surprise me that Hollywood is the only one that accepted a new deal ....I don't like the guy , so I certainly won't be watching if he is the only one of the original team left ....especially if , as I suspect, they might have Nadia ( last years winner ) as co presenter .
You lot
You'll be tuning in just like BB .... every year
MARY BERRY has decided to quit Bake Off "out of loyalty" to the BBC
Mary - there is no loyalty.
If Bake Off had floundered or if you'd put a foot wrong they would have dumped you in a heartbeat.

Playing Devil's Advocate... where was BBC's loyalty when they let it go?
(I'm personally glad they didn't give Murdoch ÂĢ25m)
