I'm after some more ideas for baby names for boys and girls as me and hubby seem to have reached a bit of stalemate over the issue. We both agree that we want names that are traditional, preferably over 100 years old, but we also want something a bit more unusual than say Jack, Alfie, Isabelle or Lily. The names must be English or Anglo-Welsh and we'd rather full names that can be shortened than just the shortened version. Our surname is Scottish and starts with D so it needs to fit in with that too.
The current lists include:

BOYS
William
Edmund
Jake
Nathaniel
Gabriel
Ellis
Owen
John
Edward
George
Henry
Freddie(it was after Flintoff not BB btw!)

GIRLS
Harriet
Lydia
Cecelia
Hermione
Elizabeth
Eleanor
Verity

Any ideas gratefully received.
Nod

I think it's really nice to see so many traditional names rather than daft made up ones. I like most of the names you've mentioned, but particualrly John, Jake, and Owen for a boy, and Lydia or Elizabeth for a girl. But if your surname starts with D, I would suggest that you avoid Verity Glance

Verity was my first choice until I realised the VD thing, but when I've mentioned it to most people they don't see the link. I kept it on this list in case anyone else noticed it so thanks GB, that's definitely made my mind up to lose it. Nod

I agree that it's a very pretty name. Couldn't you change your surname? Glance

I have mentioned it but hubby didn't seem very keen. It's a horrible surname. Nod Laugh

Eeker Eeker Eeker Blimey! I wouldn't be happy if my parents had called me any of those names! Liegeia sounds like a particularly unpleasant illness, and just imagine the teasing about Pick and Mix if you called a child Woolworth Big Grin Big Grin
