It's still normal for ducks though. Really, loads of them do it. It's supposed to keep them safe from predators before they hatch, but they didn't bargain for the busybody bloke at the bottom!

True enough,I remember watching a show a few years back and this duck had nested about 40 ft up a tree, the babies all jumped out and bounced, this was onto grass right enough, they were all fine and toddled off after the mum.

My husband said that too Deman that the ducklings would have been fine on their own but it was nice nevertheless that the guy cared enough to help out.

It was so nice to see them all on the water at the end of the report.

A real 'awww' moment. Smiler

"Father" Duck was off gangbanging another female duck.Seriously the poor females can drown when the males fight and pile onto her in the water. They play no part in the rearing of the brood.Unlike swans who mate for life and are gentle and protect their mates.

Nod Mallard drakes are total tarts. Hang around the female for ages, then off like a shot as soon as it's egg time.

awww...I remember last year watching the swans on the canal...(I gave up watching the ducks...they're not called foul for no reason you know...filthy blighters Shake Head ) but the swans had 4 cygnets and one day they were trying to get them into the water, but the cygnets were afraid to jump so one of the adult swans was in the water coaxing them in and they finally made that brave jump Big Grin
