Elena Baltacha lost 6-2 6-4 to Stephanie Foretz Gacon, Heather Watson 6-1 6-0 to Victoria Azarenka and Laura Robson 6-2 6-0 to Jelena Jankovic.

Ward was beaten 6-4 6-3 6-4 by Blaz Kavcic and Anne Keothavong, suffering from illness, retired against Mona Barthel after losing the first set 6-0.

That just leaves Andy Murray who has his first match on Tuesday.

In yesterday's first round match, Andy Murray started sluggishly, tamely losing the opening set before prevailing 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-2.

In the second round match tomorrow, he faces Edouard Roger-Vasselin ranked 101 in the world.

In today's second round match, Andy Murray had a better match than the first beating Edouard Roger-Vasselin in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.

His third round match is on Saturday against Michael Llodra ranked 46 in the world.

In today's third round match, Andy Murray beat Michael Llodra in straight sets 6-4, 6-2, 6-0.

His fourth round match will be on Monday against the Kazakhstani Mikhail Kukushkin who is ranked 92 in the world.

Andy Murray reached the Australian Open quarter-finals for a third successive year after Mikhail Kukushkin retired while trailing 6-1 6-1 1-0.

His quarter final apponent is the Japanese Kei Nishikori ranked 24 who beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga ranked 6 who had been expected to win.

Andy Murray has reached the Australian Open semi-finals beating Kei Nishikori in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.

His opponent on Friday will be the winner of the match between Novak Djokovic (ranked 1) and David Ferrer (ranked 5).

Novak Djokovic did beat David Ferrer in straight sets. So once again the semi finals opponents are the top 4 seeds.

Novak Djokovic beat Andy Murray 6-3 3-6 6-7 (4-7) 6-1 7-5. So the final is between him and Rafael Nadal on Sunday.

Have unfortunately missed most of it, but will be watching the final on Sunday. I've sort of gone off both of them just now, so I don't really care who wins, just give us a good game.

Hmm....Nadal looks the weaker of the two right now.

But only slightly - could all change yet.

And eventually Novak Djokovic bear Rafael Nadal 5-7 6-4 6-2 6-7 (5-7) 7-5 in five hours 53 minutes making this an ultra long final. Needless to say he retains his position as number 1 in the world rankings.

There was some British success. In the boys doubles finals Liam Broady and Joshua Waed-Hibbert defeated Czech Adam Pavlasek and Croat Filip Veger 6-3 6-2.
