is that right Erin?

You do not need a television licence to catch-up on television programmes in BBC iPlayer, only when you watch or record at the same time (or virtually the same time) as it is being broadcast or otherwise distributed to the public

Also one of the biggest cons was the TV detector vans, they couldn't detect anything !!! Anyone who was taken to court for not having a licence should always have pleaded not guilty because they had no way of proving you didn't have a licence.

Ahh right fanks for the clarification Erin

Moonie

You need to check your mobile phone contract re internet access. iplayer is free to use but network access on some contracts is limited to set amounts free then you will have to pay if you go over.

video streaming takes up a lot of network access and if you have a limit you could go over it very easily and end up paying a fortune to your mobile network.

If your mobile has wifi  that is the best option as it uses up your home broadband network allowance not your mobile network . even then you need to know if you have limited download on your home network too.. some providers cap people that download too much at peak times..

so yeah iplayer is free, how you access it and how often may not be

Could you elaborate Fluffs, please?

You'll be ok Moonie.

- BBC channels are always offered live on iplayer - in the channels section - to view live like that, that would need the licence ie as its a  simulcast.

- But if its "downloads" then any programme available for download will be put up after broadcast, in the downloads section, under the various categories eg factual, films, entertainment, so you don't need a licence.

If you go to download a BBC iplayer programme for the first time, normally you'll be prompted - do you want to install BBC Iplayer on your pc.  That sort of takes care of things. After that, you just select the programme you like on iplayer and select "download" and keep it for later offline. Or alternatively just watch it straight away online.

Sorry if thats confused you more Moonie

In short, don't worry
