I'm stocking up Sooz, jeez something simple can help so much

I don't doubt....it has some properties, but in my eyes they are going overboard

I have always been a fan - best anti pyretic drug ever, and can't beat it for joint pain,toothache, period pain... the list is endless.

I take one every day but the long term side effects do worry me sometimes.

Unfortunately Aspirin causes me to vomit quite violently.

I started taking Aspirin every day about 6 months ago, I do actually believe it's good for you long term. I work in the health industry and so get to hear about stuff like this anyway.

Aspirin is contraindicated in people who do have stomach problems, You also have to be aware that it does thin your blood and so if you are going to the dentist for an extraction you do need to tell them as it can prolong your clotting time.,
If you are on steroids then it is a no no.It is also a no no if you are on anti inflammatory drugs.

I always thought taking any painkiller on a regular basis would take its toll later in life. That's what my GP told me once anyway.

I'm sure you're right but I think in some cases the benefits out way the bad effects.

Anyone taking asprin daily must always be aware of side effects;ie- stomach pains,indigestion etc; see your doctor if any of these probs occur. And remember as one of the above posters said, inform doctors/nurses if you have to have any sort of surgery done.

If you're already on Warfarin then you shouldn't take Aspirin alongside that either.


Didn't know it couldn't be taken with other anti-inflam. drugs, does that include Nurofen and Ibuprofen?

I was quite concerned when the doctor gadjie said that it could cause brain bleeds. I didn't know that.

This is where the problems lie Karma. Docs only know what meds they prescribe, and the ones you might tell them about. So you may be taking other meds that are not compatible with asprin. Always ask your doc if you are unsure to prevent any side effects that come with other meds. A close friend of mine was prescribed asprin and ended up with stomach ulcers and severe indegestion probs.

People on this drug need to see the doc/nurse for blood tests on a regular basis. Dont be fobbed off. Ensure these blood tests are done on a regular basis. Your life could be at risk.

Oh no I haven't been told to take Aspirin for anything, I'm on daily anti-inflammatory painkillers (as ordered by Doc as well as Tramadol and other stuff. I bloody rattle ). But just wondered if there were any complications. I know people who have been using Aspirin for years to thin the blood (again, by Docs orders). Am a bit surprised it's taken this long to discover it's an effective preventative drug against cancer, though. One set of stats indicated it could reduce the risk of bowel cancer alone by 40%. What I didn't think was wise was to sensationalise it all over the news in the way they did, should have sent a much stronger message to check with GP first and point out the potential dangers.

I can't take aspirin it gives me stomach ache and it effects my dad in the same way

Does this mean I can smoke more? 

This is where the problem lies Karma. Folk read the papers and watch the news and go out and buy the stuff without first consulting their docs. My advice is consult your doc on any media revelations to see if it is safe for you. He knows best.

Get a lung test at your docs. Doubt you will told to smoke more.

That is exactly right - some people should not take aspirin - particularly if they are on anti inflammatory drugs already, or if they are on steroids or if they have had a clotting disorder - that is when the risk of brain haemorrhage can be heightened.
You should also not take aspirin if you are on any blood thinning agents such as warfarin or clopedril.

Only if you knock back a glass of red/white wine which depending on the current thinking is either bad or good for you.
