I agree Pirate .....trouble is it's too easy for anyone that expresses concerns to be labelled racists ....but it's actually the closing down of debate that leads to the rise of extreme right wing parties IMO

Baz

no I don't think you are...but I do think people are just seeing one word 'immigration' and not looking at the party policies, sadly. If you want a more right wing government than what we have now, its your choice, but I do know loads who have defected from the BNP to join UKIP, but you can't tar everyone with the same brush.

What are you voting for?  A party that blames immigrants and the EU for all the ills of society.  A party with no policies except blaming immigrants and the EU for everything.  A party which has more than its far share of racists and misogynists and plenty of representatives, after your vote, with those views.

You might not think of yourself as being a racist for voting Ukip, but you are voting for a party that blames immigrants and the EU for everything, so if you're fine with voting for a party that has no policies except blaming immigrants and the EU for everything that's wrong with the country, then are you really not a racist?

Are these real published UKIP policies?

Forgive my naivety but I stop listening Farage starts talking.

See , that's exactly what I was talking about Carnelian....personally I think it's that sort of statement that actually encourages people to vote for the far right .....

I am not sure EC...they were mentioned...Farage didn't read the manifesto himself. Interesting article written by the founder of UKIP...he doesn't half have a right old go at Nig ...it was a brief summary I listened to, it could have been tainted mind

why does it encourage it Baz? because that is UKIP's policies and that is what people are voting for.

Because if people get scared about being able to express their concerns ...whether they are legitimate or not ....they are more likely to be pushed into the arms of parties like the BNP .....which is a recipe for trouble .

I agree with Baz... you can't argue by extremes.

There are problems, clearly. The European Parliament could do with being taken down a peg or two.

I voted UKIP simply because I want us OUT of the EU, and I want this country to run it's own affairs again and to be a free country.

No one is blaming immigrants for everything, but when you go into the NHS or try to get a council house you do see that this country is over populated and we need to calm immigration down a touch.

We have far too many people in this country....something needs to be done, we can't carry on as we are.

I think every party has concerns about immigration Baz, we are only a small Island...I have concerns, but it wouldn't make me vote for the likes of the BNP. I think UKIP is the respectable face of an extreme right wing party and if people understand that then that's what they are voting for its their choice, if they don't then it should be discussed

Six European counties actually swung to the left in the elections... the swing to the far right groups in some countries including us scares me

Absolutely it does.  But no less true!  But what is the motivation for voting Ukip? Ok, I get disillusioned Tories voting for them because they're quite comfortable with hard right economic policies. Sometimes, the more spiteful the better, as long as they're all right.

When it comes to usual Labour voters, they are voting for the very economic polices they usually vote against when presented to them by the Tories. So that only really leaves 'blaming immigrants and the EU for everything'.

I would say that if you're someone who normally votes Labour and believes in left of centre values, who is prepared to vote for a party with economic intentions to the right of the Tories on the economy, then what else is there that attracts you?  All I can think of is blaming immigrants and the EU for everything.

It's the inconvenient truth of voting Ukip.  No Labour politician will say it because they know how insulting it sounds and how counter-productive it will be for them to say it.  Never the less, it is the inconvenient truth.

But if people get shouted down for those concerns Dame ....and accused of all sorts ....instead of being able to get it off their chest ....they are easy prey for extremists .  And I'm just as scared about the swing to the far right in other European countries as you .

I wouldn't mind but for the fact the European Parliament is bonkers barmy... some of their policies are just stupid.

I am not sure about people voicing their opinions getting shouted down Baz...I think the constant blame for everything being put on the immigrants is wrong. I even agree with the Tories and Labour on immigration...talks need to be done. I think walking out on Europe would be the worst thing we could do, I think we would be in an awful mess
