Prom, I know I'm personalising this, (for fairly obvious reasons!) but the thing is, for the people I know who work out there, their quality of life when they're actually out there is carp, they're in the middle of nowhere, away from their families and pretty much all they do is work and sleep, maybe sometimes have the odd game of cards or a bit of a quiz in one and other's houses on the camp. They have tbf in the last couple of years been given the luxury of a mobile phone signal!
And as for those who are saying none of these people pay UK taxes, that's simply not true http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Mo...ntoTheUK/DG_10026136

Why is that Soops? Is the pay that bad or are they earning good money but have nowhere to spend it? It sounds more like an existence than a life.

Why should he come back if the quality of life is better for him elsewhere? What's your problem exactly? And contrary to your earlier post those people are our responsibility. If they have British passports and they're caught in a war zone it's our responsibility to get them out. That's not an opinion, it's a fact.

I totally agree. I'm the 1st to criticise people for shying away from contributing to this country but I draw the line at leaving a person to suffer in a conflict that they had no part of. There but for the grace of God......

Nah I take that back. There are some on here who are so bitter and narrow minded that the feelings of another person (never mind many people) is something way beyond their comprehension.

Oh dear LOL ROFL LMAOF!   I suggest PROM AND CAGNEY that you BOTH read the thread properly and read super's post that I was answering to, before making spiteful nasty remarks, calling me bitter and narrow minded, and spout childish remarks like 'what is your problem?!!'  Super said that her brother in law's life was not good and not enjoyable and he wasn't neccesarily happy out there in LIBYA, and THAT is why I said why stay out there for THIRTY YEARS then?  It can't be that bad if he has stayed all that time.  It was a perfectly reasonable and valid question, and was in no way an attack or 'bitter' or narrow minded..... obviously you didn't bother to even read the thread properly or read super's post that I was responding to properly (if at all,), and you probably didn't even read my post properly either.

Feel a bit daft now?  you should, because you - and by you I mean Cagney - launched a spiteful attack on me for NOTHING.  Apologise when you're ready... i won't hold my breath though...   DO read peoples' posts before launching an attack though my dears, as its very easy to make yourself look rather silly if you're not careful.  And as for your comment PROM,.....  You do assume that YOUR opinion is the only correct one rather a lot don't you?

Where my bil is the pay is pretty good Prom, (not a whole lot more than if he could get the same kind of work in or around his home,) but, there's nowhere to spend it out there. It is an 'existence' when they're out there but they work month on/month off, so the compensation is the time at home.....So these people pay UK taxes, are UK residents, contribute to the UK economy etc. But Oh Yeah, let's just let 'em rot out there, they should have been more responsible blah blah blah

Well said Prom..there seems to be a bit of "Let them suffer/maybe die " etc going on.Imagine if it was your husband/son etc.

FFS nobody is saying that!  Why are people only seeing what they want to see on here tonight?  People are only saying that if people choose a life over there and turn their backs on the UK, then why the eff should it be the UK governments responsibility to get them back?  People are entitled to a view without being accused of wishing DEATH on folk!

With an unsettled economy as ours has been for the past XXX years - that it is best to stay in a dependable job to keep ones family above water  ??? Wherever it may be ...and lets not forget that monies sent home to loved ones is spent here & therefore contributing to this countries ever demanding tax system !

"I don't really buy this". I just thought I'd post Cupcake's full quote for her as she has selective amnesia again and has completely forgotten what she was bleating on about earlier.

Thanks Slim.  Good point I guess, but that is all i was querying; why stay?  If he hates it so?  Because i am sure there are other jobs elsewhere that pay well....  I didn't deserve to be attacked... but as I said, the person/people in question obviously didn't even read my post properly OR super's, because the attacks don't even make sense....

Did I? I don't remember that.
So, to prevent any further misunderstanding, the lifestyle when he is out there is a far cry from the stereotype of Brit's living it up abroad on mega tax fee salaries that seems to being perpetuated by some on here, but he does have a 'comfortable' life when he's at home and his family are well cared for.
Oh, and thanks for all of those who asked me if he's okay/safe btw...Oh oops, no-one did, never mind!

Spiteful? That would be valid if I even knew you. I don't know you...I don't care about you.

I am not even responding to your posts again on here PROM, as you're clearly not only spoiling for a fight, but you also can't be arsed to even read or 'get' my posts.  Super had said her BIL was unhappy in Libya, and yet he stayed for 30 years and I just asked why... now do me a favour, buggar off and pick on someone else...  I asked perfectly reasonable questions, and don't have to answer to you, so now shan't be responding to you again on here, because you're just seeing what you want to see.  As usual.!

Yes but you CARE enough to have a nasty spiteful dig at me Cagney,    UNDESERVED of course, as you now realise.....  now you can do the same as Prom and go pick on someone else!  I am not talking to you again on here either.  Will you admit you're wrong?  of course not...  then you would have to apologise... to me... as if you would....
