Yesterday a couple of workmen started work on the flat roof over the bay windows in my bedroom, so the room was well and truly open to the outside world during the daytime.

When they arrived this morning I told Alan, the boss, that whilst they had been working a a seagull (I live in Gloucester which is plagued by them) must have flown in because I heard it all night. It was still there and the room had been well and truly splattered. I said I wasn't going to try to get it out because I didn't want it flying around the house. Alan said he wasn't going in because he was scared of birds so he told Andy. his assistant, what had happened. Andy said he would go up and get the seagull out. So he went upstairs into the bedroom. A moment later he said "I can't see where it is". At which point I shouted out "April Fool".

They burst out laughing and were still laughing a couple of hours later.
