Joe, this article here from is from over two years ago, and might go some way to explaining why Leith was on the shortlist drawn up by Gamesa .

 http://www.scotsman.com/news/1..._into_city_1_1229855

Kevin Rowan of the TUC said the North-East had the “skills, workforce and vision to be a European leader in offshore wind and green manufacturing”, but it would lose out because “the Conservative-led government at Westminster has put the North-East at a competitive disadvantage to the Scottish Parliament” . Not sure if you were implying there was any influence by the UK government exerted on Gamesa to go with the Leith bid, but if so, I think Rowan's probably closer to the mark .

*edited to  say .. though I bet Cameron would love folk north of the border to think it was all down to him the contract went to Leith *

Whether or not they exerted influence they are certainly jumping on the bandwagon!

Meanwhile, if Alex Salmond is more left wing than I then my cock's a kipper!

ahh well, you'll always have a snack handy!

What is it about Salmond that leads you to believe he's right wing?

Well it's all about generalisation, isn't it? I know that some people would have it that left wing nationalism exists. However nationalism to me has always been right wing by definition and to slightly misquote Johnson, "the last refuge of a scoundrel!"

Even if he isn't a scoundrel he is a boring fud*, if I may say so. Whilst returning from Hebden Bridge one Sunday morning I had to listen to him on Desert Island Discs. That's 45 minutes I'll never ... etc.

*yes! I'm sure I'll get away with that one.

Heheh!

Did you know he's a big Zappa fan?

And would you class John Maclean as right of centre?

Why am I asking so many questions?

Dunno, do I?

Hmmn.. we have very polarised  types up here .If it comes to tribalism etc.Footy fans of Rangers are true blue for the Union.Celtic types are Irish based,so who knows etc.

I'm still a labour supporter,my grandad worked down the mines after coming home from the first world war.My late dad worked  in the post office after the second world war.I'd rather chew my own leg off than ever vote Tory!
