I also liked it when Sally put a cool hand on Darrell's shoulder and calmed her down. And I really wanted some of Alicia's magic tricks.

Ah but the thing is Prom, do you understand them now?

...........I loved them. I guess it was sort of aspirational to a kid living in a two up two down with an outside toilet and no bathroom
Try living in a flat with no bathroom and the outside loo down the yard
I lived in a shoebox on the M40 and walked 25 miles to school with nothing on my feetTry living in a flat with no bathroom and the outside loo down the yard

an outside loo down the yard?? You were LUCKY!!! Reference:
Yep and how she started off such a naughty girl but ended up to be the school heroine . So funny and so moralistic ....................somehow though it sort of shaped your life! It was only when I read them years later that I realised how snobby and elitist it was. Couldn't have been further removed from my very working class childhood but .....................................I loved them. I guess it was sort of aspirational to a kid living in a two up two down with an outside toilet and no bathroom
You have described my views on all that then. Reference: Evelyn
Did anyone ever read Flowers in the attic.

es - when she pushed poor Saklly and she fell off of the piano stool. Sally became very ill ..............(actually it was really appendicitis) Darrel felt so guilty but fortunately her father was a gifted surgeon who operated and made Sally all better! It sometimes worries me all the trivia that is stored in my head!!
NOOO it is all important stuff and I loved the fact he did an emergency appendicectomy in the middle of the night.

I LOVE it when Darrell loses her temper and delivers a few hard slaps. She does it once a book. I have them all an occasionally when visiting my mum I have been known to re read them. I am supposed to be reading 'alone in Berlin' by Hans Fallada at the moment but keep listening to 'a history of the world in 100 objects' first then I fall asleep.

I'm getting better but it's best to stick to words of one or two syllables if you don't want me scratching my head with a confused look on my face
I felt very sorry for Zelda ........the American girl .........she never stood a chance as they all felt she was far too brash and common.
TBH .........never had a lot of time for Gwendoline Mary ........neither did Mademoiselle Dupont as I remember!

I must google this to check .....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flowers_in_the_Attic..it does show it may have been based on some shred of truth.
Listen I lived in an absolute shit area in a damp flat in a single parent family (which was not common at the time) but I identified with the Mallory Towers crew so much. No idea why, but I have always re read them. I think it's mental all you guys have too.
Gwendoline Mary was an old boot and deserved the hard slap Darrell gave her (the slaps echoed round the pool haha) - remember she pretended to have a heart defect?
ooh hello gyps by the way xx
I stuck to Cat in the Hat till I was 12. Then moved over to Razzle.

I love reading about nostalgic stuff. ..The first flat i lived in when i was 4, i had to go down these very steep concrete stairs outside and it was awful if the other kids from the other flats were there. Thankfully we moved a year later.Reference:
