Someone has given us a beautiful flower arrangement and they do look very beautiful but there's loads of lilies in there and the smell is strong! A bit sickly, its doing my head in a bit but I can't chuck 'em out (yet). Anyone actually like the smell of lilies?

I love lillies, but agree the scent is a bit overwhelming. Reminds me of funerals
I love the smell of lillies, they make the whole house smell nice Though they can be a bit strong when you're close up to them. I think if you cut the pollen bits out then they wont smell anymore...

I think they are the 'stems' not sure, but they are a bugga if you get them on ya clothes. Someone told me if you do get them on you, don't rub it, just put sellotape over the mark.
Ooooh housekeeping tips

Yes: the scent reminds me of Tennyson's poem 'The lotus eaters' which I studied, many years ago, for 'O' level English Literature.
Would you like me to recite some of the lines?
Would you like me to mention some of the other poems I studied?
Yep go on then!!

Just as a quick heads up to anyone who doesn't know, as I didn't realise this until recent years... but lillies, as are often found in bouquets, are dangerous for cats.
I wouldn't buy lillies myself, but they are often central to many arrangements given for birthdays/anniversaries etc.
Just thought I'd mention it, as we are a nation of pet lovers
I love lillies but hate the smell of them.
If you cut out the little stalky antenna looking things in the middle of them (be careful if you get the dust particles on your clothes it could stain) it helps to keep the smell of them down.

Lillies remind me of when my baby daughter died and I find their scent really makes me want to cry. I never really liked lillies and their scent.

I love lillies - my friend sent me the most enormous bunch to cheer me up when I had to put my beloved dog Sox to sleep in November and every time I smell them I think of him - but the pollen was a devil to get out - dropped everywhere

Laughing in the face of danger. I like it
Pink lilies are my favourite flower and I think they smell lovely
My late Mother hated lilies - those white 'arum?' (sp?) lilies. I do like the prettier ones but their stamens cause havoc if they touch anything so they should be snipped out - apparently. the perfume is lovely initially but they can give me a sick headache when they become too much. My eldest son however did buy me some 'Persian lilies' from M&s two weeks ago and they're still going strong, they don't smell but are so pretty and don't stain anything they touch.
I love Bluebells.
