The ash is next....
I can't believe I am sitting here considering the hows & wheres of purchasing an air rifle and copper bullets
Story of my life (except I ponder shovels too, allegedly )
dead ash growing...
and now mr ditty is going on about how it would need a silencer for it...
Filth!
yeah.. probably!
*belatedly tuts at Mr Ditty*
You could always try one of these: 1. Drill a 1cm hole and fill with Ammonium Sulphonamte. Seal with a cork. 2. Water regularly with Sodium Chlorate or strong bleach 3. Copper. Copper poisons the sap killing the tree. you can either hammer long copper panel pins all the way up the trunk, about one every 8 inches, sinking them in with a dot punch, or for remote destruction buy copper hunting pellets for an air rifle, and shoot he tree at a safe distance. One pellet per foot of height should do. They sink in and the bark grows over, making this almost undetectable. __________________ | |

I like the sound of the gun....
I have bookmarked the "Laylandii forum" I may ask advice regarding Ash trees..
and now Mr ditty is going on about how it would need a silencer for it...
You tell tell Mr Ditty air guns don't bang you won't be using a sniper rifle, at least I hope not.
okaaaay...
remind me not to start a discussion on how much noises air rifles make with Mr Ditty again... I have just found out a part of his past I am not sure I like very much...
he used to air rifle sniper (with silencer) pigeons from his flat in London!
pooor pigeons

lol sounds like he was using a old spring powered one these days they are gas powered and much quiter (although you can still get spring ones) Bit dodgy shooting in london but I wouldn't worry about the pigeons there are more than enough down there. And they do allot of damage to stuff when there are in large numbers populations have to be manged so all he was doing is helping.
Grr at Mr Ditty ! City/feral pigeons are there because we have created the ideal environment for them. They are descended from "Rock Doves" there are some that still live on rock faces etc, however nature ensures survival of the fittest etc.So they have come into cities,to our "Rock faces" buildings etc.WE,being the messy chuck away buggers that we are ,give them ample food etc, that is why we also have seagulls swooping on city streets, picking up chips and kebab chuck aways.Rats etc feed well too.I feed garden birds with garden feeders and nut feeders etc.Feral pigeons can be a nuisance at times, however I would never class them as vermin, just successful, due to us in the main.

Bit like people then..the most overun out of control animal on the planet.
I'm with Katty...
pigeons have rights too
(and... fwiw.. Mr Ditty said after shooting a couple of pigeons he had a massive attack of guilt and would never kill anything without absolutely having to again)
He is still a pigeon murderer though
and for that reason I shall be sleeping in my nice comfy fave pjs tonight (the ones he's not that keen on )
Ditty, the Neighbours from Hell website has a link to a sister site that is all about hedges, might be worth a read
I have the most evil neighbours in the world, a big hedge would be bliss to me if it was the only thing wrong with them!! I do understand your reluctance to make an issue of it as you have otherwise good relations with them and, after the hell I've endured, with my neighbours I would urge anyone to try and stay on good terms with their neighbours. Unfortunately it's not always possible.
Perhaps some sort of wood destroying parasites would take care of the problem for you

Perhaps but we are a protected species besides there are probably more rats on earth than humans but I can't say for certain as no one has ever counted them.
I may pet him and squeeze him and call him George....

Who says we're protected?..we are vermin,environment wise ..
just so you know I have never shot a pigeon But being from the county I have been shhoting when I was younger but would never shoot anything I didn't intend to eat. I just get the need for population control. That said I have gone soft in my old age and wouldn't go now.
But anyway to get back on topic here is what I am going to do. (Runs though thead planting lots of Leylandii.
Oh well population control...maybe Ditty can take out her neighbours then, seeing they have introduced leyandii to the environment...keeel them!
Ahem,Neil maybe some folk think it's ok to kill/take out certain species they see as vermin/too populous etc, however who the hell gave us the remit to do that?

Em we did, you not from the country are you half the population control comes under conservation. If One species gets overpopulated others suffer. Look what happened to the red sqirrel when gray one was allowed to populate without restrictions.
I live in the country...
I love the pheasants & the grouse that nonchalantly stroll across the roads ... I am the car that stops and holds up the traffic behind me whilst they calmly meander over the road.
As they do I urge them to stay on the ground... when the bloke comes round whacking the bushes Do Not Fly Mr Grouse... stand your ground!
I hate shooting... sorry Neil but I do. I get that they pheasants & Grouse wouldn't even be there if it wasn't for the shoot... but I don't get what would make someone want to go and shoot these beautiful birds for sport.
Anyways.. I am off to bedskies... in my ol' comfy tartan jammies!
*pops back & pockets ammo*
ta Velvet xx
This is not much help so apologies Ditty, but does anyone remember That's Life with Esther Rantzen covering the menace of these trees about 30 years ago?
Ah me, if only we had listened to her

No need to be sorry but as to the shoots they do eat them afterwards and the birds get a much better life than the chicken you buy from the supermarket did.

We humans introduced the American Grey squirrel to this country, the Victorians thought they looked good on their estates. We always interfere with nature, then when it does not go the way we planned..or we were too stupid to realise that introducing non native species etc, because the landed gentry thought they were okay to hunt/kill etc, then we call them vermin etc and go mad trying to exterminate them...madness! That's humans for you.
Red Deer are thought to be great and noble animals in Scotland. They are not a barren hillside animal but a deep forrest animal. The forrests were felled in Scotland centuries ago.The poor red deer suffer in winter..we then decide that there are too many for the environment to sustain then they need culled.Cue estates making loads of dosh from so called "hunters" with telescopic high powered rifles shooting deer..and getting off on it...feckin' morons!
Pheasants came from Asia..an alien species....again introduced for feckers to kill...
Oh and pheasants can barely fly etc...all these great "sportsmen" with their scatter shotguns must be really proud when they pepper with lead.ctuns.

The number of times I have slammed my brakes on in country roads trying not to run these silly birds over..

Yeah I do that not hit one yet though you get used to them but if I ever did hit one I would put it in the boot and have it for dinner.
Well Issy they have to make them sitting targets for the morons with guns etc. Can't have them taking swift flight and escaping. They are basically just chickens(another asiastic species) that can flap a bit.How anyone can take pleasure in gunning them down escapes me.

I know Katty.
I hate killing anything to be honest.
Spiders are a big issue. I absolutely love spiders and get quite stressed when people kill them because THEY are scared of them
It's a posers sport Katty.
My Purdey's better than yours.
