Hi there.

My neighbour is going to London next week (saturday to wednesday,) and she wondered how much the taxi fare would be from Victoria coach station to Marylebone tube station (approx 2 and a quarter miles.) I know it is probably more cost than other towns, as it would take 5 minutes or less to do that distance in some towns, but could take half an hour in London. So does anyone know how much the taxi fare would be? Thank you.

Thanks guys. I just wondered, coz I went in February, and was staying at a hotel in holborn, and when I tried to get a black cab from the station, they quoted me ÂĢ15, which I thought was a pee take as it was 2 miles, and last summer, we got a cab from victoria to Kings cross and it was ÂĢ20! SO does it depend who you use?

Think it depends on the traffic.

He says it depends on traffic and not mileage.

Ah-ha, so if the two mile trip takes 15 minutes it could be as low as ÂĢ8, but if it takes half hour, it could be double. Bit unfair as it's not the passenger's fault the traffic is heavy that day or that afternoon. But I guess the driver has no choice as he has money to make/wages to earn and it ain't his fault either. Tricky in a place like London which is very congested most of the time. Thank you Smiler

Why not use the underground?
She is going with three kids (one is two y.o) and they will have lots of luggage and bits, and Victoria coach station is 10 to 15 minutes walk from the underground station. Not a good idea. The tube is out of the question. Plus 5 tube fares would be more than a taxi fare probably. It's about four pound an adult, so her and hubby alone would be ÂĢ8.

The black cabs charge on time taken and not mileage.
the mini cabs charge on mileage.

She can get a bus between the two storm. If she is going to use public transport while she is here she should get an oyster card. it will cost her 3 quid and that will be refunded when she sends it back.
then she just puts cash on it and it means that all her bus and tube fares will be a lot cheaper.
She doesn't need a photo or anything, get her to check out the Transport for London webiste

I'm amazed that taxi fares cost that much in London!! Glad I live near the Second City. (apart from having to admit Lisa comes from the same area!!).

I asked my husband who is a private hire driver (minicab driver) how much he would charge for a two mile journey and it was just over a fiver, but private hire charge on mileage, and I expect rates are a lot different in London.

There's probably private cabby firms in the station, or there will be one nearby. But TBH they may well have a set fee similar to the black cab final price anyway. Its shocking how they rip people off here Shake Head
