(I've lifted someone else's post from another forum with which I'm involved, and added a few points)

The Grand National is an over-rated unsafe Grade 3 Handicap race.
To risk a Gold Cup Grade 1 winner in such a race is questionnable but some people take chances in the quest for sporting glory.
33 years ago Gold Cup winner Alverton, a horse in which I had a particular interest, died in the Grand National when he broke his neck falling at Bechers and a generation later it's deja vu.
There was a major public outcry then and with the increased power of the media there will be an even bigger one now.

Too many horses and too much interference in the design by outsiders. By lowering the height they make the horses go faster.
A sad day for horse racing.

I didn't watch it preferring instead to listen to the 'Boro match.

The fat scouser was banned from horse racing as a result of the industry itself and not a bunch of well meaning people making generalisations.

However, I eagerly await the plan for banning horse racing
