I presume one of those was ironic.

I suggested Mr Right for Mr Woo he was all.......................... - I think it was an apt choice TBH.

I've done Sunny hillboy - West End Rocker and The Midnight Club (my sweepstake choice).

Soozy Woo

Don't the RSPCA do regular checks on the fences and horses for this race? I thought all steps were taken to ensure as much safety as possible.

Not sure I'd call it barbaric.....I've seen horses who don't fancy racing, if they don't want to move, you can't make them.

Watching BBC now, Just seen Swing Bill, beautiful horse.

If I was betting, I'd probably go for West End Rocker, cos my Mum would have liked the name.

I like the sound of Treacle, too. I don't know much about this gambling malarkey.

Oh thats really horrible Veggie. There was someone on Radio 5 Live yesterday saying they'd improved the fences, after so many horse deaths in recent years. Not enough obviously

I'd ban all horse racing, flat or jumps. Cheltenham is just as cruel and I've demonstrated outside there as well as Aintree.

People fixate on the National being cruel because of the fences. What so many people don't see is all the cruelty involved in any horse race.

Horses are herd animals and they take the flight option when threatened. Horses may run about in the wild but they don't run flat out (which they are forced to do in a race)  unless they believe they are in fear of their lives and they certainly don't jump obstacles where they can't see the ground on the other side unless again they are being forced to. So horse racing by it's very nature is cruel because it is predicated on the most basic fear horses have - that of being caught and eaten.

Factor in the 'training' which mostly relies on causing more fear and pain and the whipping and injuries these animals have and I cannot see how anyone can justify it.

If a person wants to watch a 'sport' then they should pick one where the participants have a choice in whether or not they compete

Same here Veggie. I've already lost it at my brother for gloating about winning. What is the price of a horses life these days? According to him his ÂĢ80 win is going on a slap up meal tomorrow. I hope he chokes on it

When they are able to talk and communicate how they feel then and only then should they be used as entertainment. "sport"....don't make me laugh. It's abuse...plain and simple

Do "we" really though? How about dog fighting? Badger baiting? Fox hunting?

That's extreme. I hate it with a passion!

That's what should be termed as barbaric!
