any computer techies here?? help needed

an electrician came to our house today and had to turn the electricity off, but now the pc wont come on the tower is making quite a noise and the monitor just says no signal and goes off

i'm on my daughters laptop now. the router is working so the internet is ok.

i'm just hoping there is something simple i can do for the pc

all help is appreciated thanks

Mine does that sometimes but then mine has a slightly loose connection at the screen, check your cables are in right and try again, other than that I don't know..hope its nothing major....

could be the power supply if there was a spike when he turned the leccy back on... luckily its easy and cheap to repair

quite often they turn on and the fan spins, then it clicks and it goes back off again... sound familiar?

saz whats a spike? i wasn't in when the fella came so i dont know what went on. how will i know if it was a spike? the fans do sound like they are spinning fast and loud but no clicking

If stonks' advice doesn't work, then I suspect that there is a physical fault with the computer either with the internal power supply unit, ones of the fans, or the hard drive. As the px won't come on, it sounds most likely to be the power supply unit.
Whichever it is, it would need a PC repair shop to sort it out.

sorry, I just meant a surge of electricity when the power came back on.... can blow the fuses in the plugs but its switching on, so thats ok... do you knwo someone that can have a look?

Aimee, I don't have a clue, but hubby has suggested you turn everything off, check all your cables are in properly (in particular the one from the monitor to the computer) then turn it back on again.

If you plug the computer in through something like a Belkin surgemaster, it should protect against spikes.

thanks everyone for your replies. i have turned it off at the wall and uplugged it left it for a while but still no luck. luckily we do know someone who can fix it for us so it looks like a phone call is in order later, i just thought i'd try other things first
