A couple of years back I was there when there were quakes two nights running combined with torrential rain and flooding. That was bad enough, but the damage was relatively minor and only two people died. This is something which I find really upsetting. It's so hard to see a place and people I've grown to love being so devastated.

You don't feel the small quakes. Even some of the medium quakes are like someone rattling the doors, so not really scary. It was a bit horrible being in a medium-large quake, but it only lasted a few seconds. The one earlier today went on for two minutes and then the aftershocks were still hitting every ten minutes at 2pm our time.

I heard someone say on the radio it was like being on a skateboard
