Oh, I can't bear Earl Grey Joe ... it's like drinking perfume. I like good old builders breakfast tea

I think I bought something similar back from Lloret De Mar in the 1970s

I don't think I've ever owned a tea strainer - I can get quite excited about kitchen gadgets but .........................not a tea strainer I don't think. I used to hate tea at home (as a kid) when there were grouts in the bottom of the cup. I still leave (and always have left) about half an inch of tea in the bottom of my cup even though I've always used tea bags! Old habits die hard.

That's what I love about you, Soozy - you're so decisive

Has it got little hooks to hang the cups around the bowl...?

I had one as a wedding present and remember setting it up, placing the hooks carefully on the lip of the bowl, hanging the cups onto the hooks..........and then watching each and every cup drop and smash to pieces

I had a set of bamboo cutlery once - bought it on impulse - it was bronze - I only used it once or twice - when I moved house and emptied a cupboard it had all gone green! I gave it to my friend who was helping me move - she said it cleaned up a treat - I wonder if she still has it 24 years on!

I have to say..........I may be buying a halogen oven so maybe more healthy cooking is on the cards

What do you do for mashed taties? Now there's another thing - potato mashers - my husband took mine to work (we are in catering) it got lost - I'll be buggered if I can find a decent potato masher since!

A potato ricer is your (soon to be) new best friend, Soozy.

I've often wondered about them - are they good?

How boring are we?

Maybe I'll ask my mum to get me one for Christmas - I asked for a kitchen blow torch last year - it's still in its box unused

I may do Creme Brulee at Christmas - or Baked Alaska maybe.

Soozy, I got a potato ricer a few months ago - it makes the best mash ever, I love it.

Our cutlery is an old 1930's set that we inherited from MrB's Grandma....I love it...it's nice and heavy and so unusual. It's a huge set and has serving spoons and everything. The forks and spoons are one piece and the knives are two piece!! I love cutlery too...and I prefer the older styles as there is something very comforting about them..and the weightier it is the better!!

We have one of those potato ricer things too.....brilliant invention.

My fave kitchen gadget is an old cast iron mincer from about the 1930's too....it is just gorgeous and still works perfectly, no rust and as sharp as ever....great for the arms!

I may move into this thread!!!!!

I understand you can use it on veg too, Soozy.  Carrot balls, potato balls - the world's your oyster veggie ball..!

I've got a - don't know what you call it really - but it julienne's vegetables.  Looks like a peeler but with lots of serated teeth.  Shreds the veg uniformly and is great for stir fry or when ever you want ribbon-like root veggies.

We really all should have a weekend get together when we all bring our obscure kitchen gadgets (and lots of veg) .................................WOW - the fun we could have

Amazing!! I had never heard of it before and was surprised to see  recipes online. I used half the ammount of recommended sugar and juiced a lemon and a lime. The taste is rich and deep.
