Generally metal fork and two piece knife - don't like all metal knives.

At times I think modern forks could be sharper too - don't like blunt forks either.

Well you know, a blunt fork is no good for spearing your sausage and your peas is it

I've got some old knives that I stole on my Mum.  When I say stole I mean I borrowed them and never gave them back.  Anyway all the cutlery is one piece, some plain, some patterned.

I borrowed my mums spud knife once and lost it.....you'd be suprised at how angry a woman can get when you lose her spud knife   it was older than me though and she can't peel spuds since.

I think it might have fell into the bag of peelings and then was thrown into the bin.  I didn't realise til she asked for it back and then I couldn't find it.  God she was fuming!  That was about 8 years ago and she still mentions it when she can.

I have thrown a few away with the potato peelings...........and I agree with your Mum, it takes ages to get used to a new peeler

Since this type of thread doesn't present itself very often, I just thought I'd share

Like I said, I'm odd

I like 'odd'

I have a potato peeler - no other potato peeler will do - I'd go apeshit if someone nicked it - I can't peel with a knife!

You are Mini Cosi and I've got just one thing to say to you!  Where's my tattie knife??? and go tidy your bedroom right now!

Honestly, my daughter did the exact same thing with a favourite veg knife and I still find it hard to forgive her.  She treated me to a specially designed tomato knife but it's just not the same. (Cuts tomatoes great though!)

I did try to replace it, honest! It was just so old that nowhere sells the same kind of knife anymore.  It was a flat rounded blade and had no handle on it and to look at it you wouldn't have thought it could cut butter never mind peel a spud.

Hmmm off to ebay to see if they might have one.

(This thread has given me the guilts now)

I have to say..........I may be buying a halogen oven so maybe more healthy cooking is on the cards

'boil yourself' potatos .............What are these things you speak of?

I've got a lovely carving knife which has a matching fork - except for the fact that they no longer look like a 'set'.  The knife is in perfect condition - the fork has NO handle whatsoever and really should be thrown in to the bin.  Trouble is, the fork has perfect, really thin tines that can skewer through a joint like a needle through butter.  It's the bestest fork ever and I can't seem to find one anything like it as a replacement.

What the fruitloop am I doing discussing forks and knives at 11.50pm on a Tuesday night?

Oops! Wrong expression methinks!   I meant potatos you don't have to peel before you boil.....ready made and sold in supermarkets
