For England and Wales it will be a bright start in the north, before heavy rain in the south spreads northwards this afternoon. Also turning increasingly windy in the south later. Mainly dry and fair across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Tonight:

Wet and windy, with gales in exposed areas. The persistent rain clearing away to the north and east overnight, but only to be followed by heavy showers from the southwest.

Saturday:

Strong and blustery winds across many parts, with a mix of sunny intervals and heavy showers. Becoming generally drier, brighter and less windy in the south later in the afternoon.

Severe south or southwest gales will spread east across southern parts of the UK, with the strongest gusts along exposed coasts of Wales, southwest and southern England this morning. Later the wind will ease from the west. Rain or showers.

Heavy showers will move across southern and southwest England, Wales and later northwest England. Some of the showers will be thundery. Elsewhere becoming mainly dry and clear. Light winds.

Sunday:

Can I pick your brains, while I am here?

Can you tell me what "My Network Places" on Windows XP is? It shows up on my Start menu and if I click on it, it gives me two places that I have no idea what they are, or what they're there for. As far as I know I've not set them up, and I don't like not knowing what things are on my pc.

My Network Places shows what other resources you have on your network like printers or access to shard folders on other networked computers.. assuming that you have any other computers on your network that is.. a couple of decent explanations here...

Thanks for that Z. As far as I'm aware, I've not got any other network! The addresses there are for westminster.gov.uk and roehampton.ac.uk! It worries me how they came to be there, and what they are there for! Any thoughts? And how do I get rid of them? Or am I worrying unneccesarily?

I've deleted them thanks Z, but they both appear to be shortcuts. Would that mean they're somewhere else on my pc? They both said "on" on the My Network Places window. I just feel uneasy having a "network" connection on to westminster.gov.uk. Why the hell is it there in the first place?

I assume that at some point you visited these two site?

I signed a petition at some stage, so presume I may have been to the Westminster gov uk one, but can't for the live of me think of ever having gone to the roehampton one??  Basically, I need reassurance that they can't access my computer. Am I being paranoid?

No you are fine Jenny. The Roehampton one is has an academic address for Roehampton University if that helps...

It will be a less windy day than Saturday with a mixture of sunny intervals and scattered showers. The showers will be heaviest and most widespread in southwestern areas while some eastern parts will remain dry throughout.

Tonight:

Heavy rain will move northwards across southern England and into Wales, the Midlands and East Anglia. Further north most places will be dry but it will become chilly.

Monday:

Locally heavy rain will continue heading northwards, moving through northern England and into Northern Ireland and southern, central and eastern Scotland. Turning more showery further south, but also becoming windy.
