Ok .. so here is an interesting fact I learnt today... the term 'arc' when it refers to 'arc lamp' etc.. or a spark between two contacts with a lot of volts was first called an 'arc' by Sir Humphrey Davy (him of the miners' lamp fame) because when he created a brilliant light by a continuous spark between two horizontal carbon rods the middle of the hot spark rose upwards due to convection while the ends of the spark stayed at the tips of the carbon rod...hence the arc

Mist and fog patches clear to leave a dry and sunny morning across England, Wales and Eastern Scotland. Showers in Northern Ireland and western Scotland continue through the day with isolated showers developing elsewhere, but most places remain dry.

Tonight:
Remaining dry in the south and east of the UK with some clear spells. Northern and western parts cloudier with showers or rain overnight, becoming heavy at times

Sunday:
Rain continues in northern and western parts but eases after midday. Southern and eastern parts largely dry with some sunny periods, but scattered showers developing from time to time.

Orkney: Cloudy start to the day, sunny intervals later but heavy rain due around tea time... max temp of 12°C with the wind from the south east 10 mph gusting to 21 mph
