Ok .. so here is an interesting fact I learnt today... the term 'arc' when it refers to 'arc lamp' etc.. or a spark between two contacts with a lot of volts was first called an 'arc' by Sir Humphrey Davy (him of the miners' lamp fame) because when he created a brilliant light by a continuous spark between two horizontal carbon rods the middle of the hot spark rose upwards due to convection while the ends of the spark stayed at the tips of the carbon rod...hence the arc
See.. you learn stuff here too

Oh and any hydrogen you have in your body in the form of water or any other molecules or compounds... was created at the time of the big bang... and no later.. so when someone asks you how old you are...

It's a mine of useless usefull info this place
That's interesting Zaph... I always knew the lamps were called Davey lamps.... as my dad/grandads/uncles etc were all miners...but I read a book recently..and it mentioned this guy and that the lamps were known by his surname...I dont remember much history, only when it's of interest to me...

I know it as an arc lamp, cos my brother was a welder in the shipyards and used them
an I remember more of said book that any I've ever read I think.. lol
Probably a good job he didn't call it "that bendy sparky thing"
