My kids school don't...we used to have a May Day thing with a May Queen and everything.

that's good news, we've been inveited to a beltaine festival at some henge in yorkshire so i might take sproglet along for a nights free camping and a hippie kind of singsong round the fire

as for a maypole...who knows what could happen after a half a shandy and a snort of sherbet

Maypole = long flowing dresses and flowers....do not dance round it in yer underwear!!

yes Croc that's it and for the rest of the year the may pole stood blocking some corrider.
All the girls used to want to be the Queen and stand in the middle

I've kept Rocky Balboa off today (because that is what he looks like this morning)

He's ok but it looks nasty.

We used to use a netball post as our Maypole.

I was a 'Princess' one year....they picked the names out of hat...all the others girls were soooo jellus...(good preparation for me that was )

May Day - originally a Roman festival which began on 28th April and lasted several days to mark the commencement of summer. In England, middle and lower classes would gather flowers - ‘go a maying’ - and the prettiest village maid was crowned Queen of the May, celebrated with dancing around the maypole.

On this day in 1517 In 'Evil May Day' riots in London, London apprentices attacked foreign residents. Wolsey suppressed the rioters, of whom 60 were hanged, in 1851 Queen Victoria opened the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park, London. Over 10,000 exhibitors set up eight miles of tables. Although technological wonders from around the world were on display, the exposition was dominated by Britain which was the premier industrialized nation and workshop of the world and finally in 1955 Stirling Moss and co-driver Dennis Jenkinson became the first British drivers to win the Mille Miglia. His Mercedes Benz finished 30 minutes ahead of the second car, driven by the legendary Argentinian, Fangio.
