If I was Luisa I'd get my bags packed if they are up for eviction. The only thing that might save them is if Dappy continues to mount Jasmine.

Yes he did, not sure what it was as he mumbled through most of it.

No, I missed that bit too (and I'm not particularly interested in his view on that score either  .

That said, if you put a person who follows religion quite closely into that house it's bound to cause a stink at some point.

He is allowed a religious view, what was offensive is saying they can be fixed imo

But, isn't that a religious view too - that they can be fixed?

I suppose that'll be one of those miracles that happen if you 'believe' hard enough.

TBH, I hate most religious stuff which is why I'm going downstairs when I pop my mortals.

That was saying that gay people are damaged simply because they are prefer same sex relationships.

I do agree tho that he is entitled to his opinion.

Are there any religious works that do accept homosexuality or are they all in agreement that it's a no-no?

If you believe in a religion then you must believe in its teachings 100%.  You can't pick and choose - or can you?    It's all far too complicated, contrived and bizarre for me to grasp fully!

Surely that would depend on how strongly your religious beliefs are versus how strongly you feel about Sam's opinions on women..?

Or, you could be offended by both of course.

To try to be fair, although what he was saying was a load of clap trap - it's his belief and no more clap trap than claiming the country's been run be lizards inside human suits...     He wasn't 'using offensive language' though, I don't think?   Nor was he trying to offend  - if he's said he though Ollie was a *insert offensive gay jibe of choice* - that would be offensive, stating his religious beliefs in the way he did, wasn't offensive, (although the beliefs are, but that's another thing)  but I can see why he needed to be pulled up on it.

I've no idea what he thinks about religion/gay stuff 'cos we don't chat about that; he's just a good bloke who we occasionally have a drink with.

Great posts Basher, Suzy and Saint.

I think essentially he was suggesting (if I heard him correctly) that if you had a broken leg you would cure it, the same principle goes for homosexuality in his opinion. If you are gay you scan be cured.

That I would say is what he has been pulled up for and rightly so. I would be pretty confident that if I asked my gay mates what they thought about being cured they would have a few choice words for me.

I think Luiza (is that how you spell her name?) had the right idea in trying to close down the conversation pretty sharpish. Just a shame she failed.

Enthusiastic Contrafibularities

There are laws against inciting hatred based upon sexuality in this country and BB has to be careful not to fall foul of those. It is also in BB's own rules that people don't make remarks that could be seen as racist or homophobic and so housemates are expected to abide by these. To me it would have been fine if he had just said something like: "I follow the bible on that issue" and I reckon that BB would have been as well. He could probably have got away with more as well, but comparing gays to being handicapped and being able to be "fixed" was really crossing the line imo.

I know, EC, and I agree that it was right that he was pulled up for it.     I just mean he wasn't saying it to be offensive.    As Suzy says, people also believe that some races are superior and it's their right to think that.. it's just not their right to do anything about it.

A good post from DS, which sums up my own opinion pretty well:

Big Brother were perfectly right to challenge Evander's comments. If he's allowed an opinion, so are they.

Now don't conflate his being given a warning with him being told that he's wrong and can't believe what he believes. That's not what happened.

He expressed his view that homosexuality is a) a choice and b) akin to a disability that can c) be "fixed". Big Brother pulled him up and said that this was a little offensive (which it is). "Opinions" (even those based on religion) aren't immune from being challenged.

He's still free to believe it, say it or turn it into a showtune, just not in Big Brother's house. Same as how if you came into my house and shouted out something bigoted I can tell you to stop or leave.

That's not impinging on free speech, censoring people or "silencing" them. It's about respect, politeness and decorum.
