It looks to me that the Rebels/Freedom Fighters are on a hiding to nowt IMO. The Govt forces have weapons etc that have been supplied by Russia and China that are far superior to what the rebels have.Should the West arm the Rebels? Well this is another sticking point. This latest involvement here by the west in a Oil rich country by the west will result in a stalemate with loads of dead bodies on the ground.
Is there something to be said for a complete arms ban everywhere? that said it will drive it underground and peeps will become mercenaries,(sp) Bit like the film Lord Of War

if only -re what I highlighted in Bold. The contracts of companies/Govt's to sell arms around the world is worth millions if not billions. All countries do deals with other countries for commercial and financial gain. When problems arise between one or more countries and another the only people to suffer are the ordinary day to day folk who know nothing of the deals that have taken place in the name of whichever currency.
