It included the letters of application sent on behalf of the children to go to the orphanage, when they arrived, who took them there, when they left and who they went to live with after the orphanage. Brilliant stuff.

Brilliant, what did it say?

Aimee there were 24 jpg's on it, all handwritten letters, records etc, so when I get time I'm going to transcribe them all before I upload them on to Ancestry.

But the bits I did read was that the application for them to go to the orphanage was made my a George Wilson who was the local minister.

The Salvation Army & the local community had collected a fund to send with the children as a contribution to the Orphanage of Β£20, this was in 1897, but today that could have been around Β£2000 or close to.

It also included letters from a Dr, certifying that they weren't riddled with whatever that might infect the rest of the children in the Orphanage.

Then later letters show when they left the Orphanage, the date, who they went to live with and the address.  The youngest of the children was taken in by a baker in Street, Somerset, but he returned him to the orphanage 2 months later, despite his wifes protests because he was 'useless' due to his deafness. A few months after that he returned to Sunderland to live with his brother Andrew (my great grandfather).

That's all I've read for now.

How spooky is this?  After posting this here, some guy on Ancestry has contacted me & he is also a direct ancestor of this family, he is the great grandson of my great grandfather Andrews brother George.  But he has also just sent me this picture he has, this shows the whole family together before the parents died.  However, it's puzzling as it shows 9 children, I only have 8 in my tree, and the guy who contacted me only had 8, he didn't know of one of the daughters who also went to the orphanage.

The eldest boy at the back is my Great Grandfather.

You all know how long I have been on with my family tree. In the last week I have revisited stuff I thought was a given, only to find its all wrong, I bought 2 x deaths certificates, 2 x marriage certificates and one birth certificate, to clarify. It seems my dads family from his great grandmother (paternal) is all wrong. Plus his paternal Great grandfathers family is also all wrong. I'd took much of the info from a gentleman who had been doing ancestry longer than I had, and believed it all.

Cinds

Oh no, Cinds      How frustrating and disappointing.

I pretty much stumbled over a similar thing myself a while back.  Fortunately I'd got it right and the other tree had it wrong.....but boy, did I sweat on it and feel sick at the time.  I really questioned my own research for a while.

So, have you managed to find the correct links for your tree now?

Cosi, I'm gutted, so much research is rubbish. I have tried, and the new stuff makes other stuff I knew sensible.

I always thought my GG grandfathers dad was called John Pringle, seems now he was called William. Plus my G Grandfather David Pringle, his Dad is def Alsxander, but I always thought his mother was Lizzie Nixon, turns out she died in 1884 and my real GG grandmother is calledMargaret Miller, who's father is Thomas Peatson Miller. Which explains why some of my family were named  sos and so Pearson Pringle"
