Tinned salmon is just a chunk cut from a fillet.
Yes it is cooked and it is in its own juices, no water or anything. John West Wild Red Salmon is the best. It's Canadian or Alaskan.

yes.
of course saying salmon isnt realy fair because you might have smoked salmon with your scrambled eggs for breakfast and then flaked salmon in fresh mayo with lemon juice, cracked black pepper and paprika with bread at lunch and salmon fillets with a sauce and veg for dinner.
of course i'm not saying that salmon 3 times a day is ideal but there is certainly no reason to limit it to once a week.
Prsonally I'm not a lover of salmon although I do like it smoked.
I find it quite hard to believe that folks have never eaten it TBH. Then again I'm from a fishy family .......even so.

Scrum if you need to eat oily fish try Peppered Mackerel, it's lovely served on toasted ciabatta with horse radish sauce, not expensive either.
is mackerel rubbery?? or like sardines???quote:Originally posted by Essex Angel:

It does stink but tastes nice, better than kippers. You can buy it tinned I think? but it's better fresh, I should have said it's smoked mackerel, you get about 2 or 3 fillets in the supermarket for about ÂĢ1.25 I bake them in the oven for 8 minutes but my teenage son sticks them in the mike for about 1 minute.
This thread is so odd
I don't like salmon but I love tuna. It's nice to just eat it from the tin especially when it's just in spring water.
Also those really salty fish, what are they, the ones on pizzas? They're my other favourites.

its not as uncommon as you may thing to add strips or small chunks of smokes salmon to scrambled eggs and serve it with toast at breakfast time.
salmon in mayo is realy nice although i often cheat and use a tin of skinless & boneless salmon mixed with a couple of spoons of mayo and some lemon juice and paprika serve it with a light salad and some nice warm fresh brown bread
paprika is a kind of pepper, most often used on egg mayo in resteraunts or on prawn cocktails
waitrose, no sorry i tend to use butchers, greengrocers, farmers and fishmongers although i do buy most of the other stuff we use at asda, i think the only exception is baked beans which we tend to get at aldi because they are realy nice from there.
why is salmon for breakfast to far? it just makes a nice change from the more usual bacon, eggs sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms an fried bread and its certainly lighter and healthier.
smoked salmon is also realy nice with phily on a granary roll and maybe some salad for a snack / lunch.

you can buy it as skinless and boneless in tins too, supermarket own brand is often half the price of john wests, its also worth trying the pink salmon first (again skinless and boneless) as that isnt as strong tasting or expensive as red salmon, the skinless and boneless isnt completely bone free but only leaves the tiny edible bones.
Salmon's a healthy food to eat but I prefer it tinned, if I cook fresh salmon I have to add lots of lemon juice and black pepper to give it some flavour. I don't like smoked salmon though
ooooo i loves salmon... but not the tinned cat food much

anchovies...mmm love them too
We have salmon with a watercress sauce and jacket/boiled new potatoes + veg - really healthy meal. Watercress sauce is made by chopping watercress and adding to fromage frais or blitzing the two together. YUM!!
Forgot to say wrap the salmon filllet in foil with dill and slices of onion rings, and a dash of lemon juice, then bake for 15 - 20 mins in oven

If I have tinned salmon it has to be red as I find the pink stuff fairly bland and tasteless, although it's acceptible on sandwiches, but red is so much better.
If I'm cooking a rae fillet I spread a thin layer of slightly salted Lurpack on foil place the salmon on top wrap up and bake for about 20 minutes in a preheated oven (180 C) you can add a few grains of salt and/or lemon juice if you want. Those fillets usually come with skin on but are boneless. The fless lifts off the skin no bother once cooked. Serve them with boiled new potatoes (with or without jackets) and some veg of your choice. Bit of butter on the potatoes is nice.

I used to not like salmon when I was younger (except on sandwiches) but now I do, but it has to have a good flavour.quote:Originally posted by ~Orchid~:

I know, but John West has a much superior flavour. It is worth the extra money, IMO.quote:supermarket own brand is often half the price of john wests
