Stonks, if you're going to talk Iraq, what about the sanctions thhr US imposed on them. The iraqis were crying out for aid and no one gave a crap and no one called for fthe sanctions to be lifted.  None of this is about human rights.  Bin Laden was a good friend of the US till they moved into Saudi and he didn't like it.  Bin Laden was a wealthy man, he didst have to get involved, so I don't think its right to start labelling him a coward, particularly when Obama, the person who ordered his killing was sitting in a darkened basement watching it all on tv!

Whether Bin Laden deserved the death he got after all the crimes he orchestrated or incited is one thing, but that is not up to the US to decide.  They are not the police force of the world, they were acting outside of their jurisdiction and carried out a revenge killing.  It's bloody terrifying to think that is excusable and it flies in the face of the human right they claim to be promoting.

I'm late to this thread and there's too many pages to read. Some personal observations and thoughts. When I saw all the cheering outside the White House I was instantly reminded of all the cheering from those of certain beliefs that had no empathy for the tragedy of lost lives in 9/11..why is one celebration of loss of life better than another! ? Since the news my only thoughts have been for those who lost loved ones in 9/11 whatever feelings they have they're entitled to.

One thing that irritates me every time 9/11 is mentioned, especially from the American perspective, and commemorated every year at Ground Zero which hubby and I have watched with respect every year is......it's not just Americans who lost their lives. Of the 3.000 approx there were many Nationalities that lost their lives that day because they were either on the planes or were temporarily visiting The Towers for business reasons...why are other Nationalities who died never mentioned in the US...or anywhere?

Another thought, Laden is either personally or through his followers responsible for many many deaths, and apparently so is Gaddafi...why has it been deemed illegal to deliberately set out to kill Gaddafi, but not illegal to kill Bin Laden. What and where is the defining line of legal/illegal to kill anyone, whether it's through war or a mad gunman or whoever or by whatever means that someone loses a life because of another. I plainly don't understand human nature and all the criteria of what's thought of as "right" or "wrong", legal or illegal

Martin Luther King didn't say that. Somebody called Jessica Dovey did on Facebook.

Imagine if someone is sitting on some beach somewhere minding their own business when all of a sudden a one eyed osama bin laden with a hole in his head washes ashore. It'd be funny to a degree yes, but a bit gruesome!

Erm confused.com..here are my posts show me Iraq and coward....

And in a seperate study it is estimated that Al Qaeda are responsible for 2 to 5 million deaths but hay ho I know who's side I'd prefer to be on and its not on a side that refuses womens and young girls rights, who kill their own people if they don't tow the line and I certainly won't defend a millionaire nutter that could have used his money to feed his people rather than kill them....

And I think you've got it wrong about the Saudi thing..the badness was put into him long before that....

Sorry I would stay and debate properly but gorse fires have fecked me internet....

I gave you UNICEF as one source.  There are plenty of others.

Come on though - what's your source for that number you gave?  Then I (we) can be the judge of whether it's credible or propaganda, as you say.

fact is they are the policemen of the world, it falls on the super power  of the time to dish out  what they perceive as justice to others, we did  when we had   an empire, the romans did  it  when they had the same, it's how it is, altho i agree we dont have to like it.

look at the hoohaah  that went on when  america didnt leap into libya  and  bomb gaddafi, and expressed the desire not  to lead the  nato forces, but eventually they were forced to  because its a sad fact that its only the americans  that can, in most situatoins.
