What is an American fridge freezer Issy? is it just one of those big ones. Might cost a bit to run if you don't keep it quite full

They are like big cabinets with the freezer on one side and the fridge on the other - it has an ice making machine in it. Not sure how big they are - also how economical they are to run.

I've got one and love it...If you're considering one with the ice dispenser on the door check of it needs plumbed in,I have a filtered water dispenser on mine as there's loads if ice making trays in the freezer....Shop around before you buy as they have decreased in price a lot, ours was around ÂĢ700 but they're are even cheaper available.

Thanks Lee - I really am thinking about it. You can get a beko one for about ÂĢ650 on line from Curries. I do a lot of cooking and freezing so I think it would be worth it.

I've got a couple but they've been demoted to spares.  They're ok but they aren't particularly big - the freezer compartment is tiny esp. if you have the water/ice feature.  I use them as booze cabinets.

Frankly even after buying the 2nd - a much bigger and scarily expensive one,  I'm not too enthused, but it all depends on what you need, Issy.  They do vary in size and price.

My one has all the features as listed (except the 4 shelves thing). When I got mine it was about ÂĢ800. My colleagues thought I was nuts paying that amount of money but *touch wood* it's never let me down. Plus the freezer capacity is ace. My favourite thing (and the reason I got it instead of the traditional American one) is all the drawers that slide in and out. (Well, these things matter, non?!) I played with it in the shop for 40 minutes before I told the anxious and by then very pissed off sales bloke that I wanted it.

Issy, we took delivery of ours last week, it's an LG one, with a water dispenser and ice maker (cubes or crushed), it is one u don't need plumbed in, just has a water jug thingy in the fridge door that u need to keep filled up.... for a family of five.. I can't belive how I coped with a normal fridge freezer... I can actually see what I have in there now... it's got 2 veg/fruit draws.. a bread drawer in the door, has shelves that will house big fizzy drink bottles and all those jars you have open (like jams ) that sit on a shelf and take up space.. the freezer has to drawers and five shelves...
I keep going in the kitchen just to gaze at it... I love it... and on the plus size its really quiet.. and great on electricity...
We got it from applicance online or applicance city... We paid extra for a two man delivery as they had to take the doors off to get it in the back door.. but they said they did that with 99% of all there deliveries...

We are really pleased with it..

Thanks PG - that is really very helpful. Does it take up much more space than a conventional fridge freezer?
