Load of fookin' shite.
My hubby used to get accused of being 'under the thumb' when he first married me (when we were in our mid 20s,) because he phoned me a few times, when he was at the pub, to let me know he was gonna be an hour later than he had planned.
("Gotta let little wifey know have ya?" And "Got a thumb shaped print on your head?!")
In my experience, the people who accuse you of being 'under the thumb' because you care about your partner and are considerate to them, are the ones who are 'unhappily single' (and occasionally unhappily married,) and they are secretly jealous and resentful of your relationship.
I am not saying ALL single folk are jealous and resentful of people in couples BTW... but the majority of the ones who make bitchy remarks like this are, IMO..
